Draft Rumors

I said it yesterday.  The Dolphins are going to take a tackle at 5, the Giants are going to take one at 4. There is a chance 5 tackles will be gone by the time we pick.  More than likely at least 4 will be gone.  Besides QB the hardest and beginning to become the most expensive position to address in FA is LT & RT. Teams who have a need there will bypass other needs especially if they have a young QB to protect.

if that happens the jets should trade back.  get extra picks, and you can still get a very good wr at 15 or 16.  maybe one of the top 3 wrs falls, or you can even take jefferson or mims at 16, and net a 3rd and 4th round picks.

If the dolphins pass on a qb at 5 then anything is possible.

One way or another, one of those 4 tackles, if not 2, will be there at 11, and douglas will probably be getting offers for the pick.  This will be the first interesting observation of how he values players.

Wills and Thomas are going #4 and #5 in this draft.  I doubt Wirfs and Becton will make it to the Jets unless they trade up.  A team like the Broncos will leapfrog the Browns and Jets to select one of the remaining two.

I would trade back then too.  There has always been smoke around a trade with the Eagles back to 21. I think a trade could look like this:

Jets Trade

#11

Eagles Trade

1(21)

2(53)

4(127)

4(146)

That would give the Jets 8 picks in the first 4 rounds

i think this board is paranoid and obsessed with tackles b/c we never draft them, ever.  other teams have other needs.  teams covet qbs, they want cbs, they want pass rushers, they want dominant DL, etc.

Giants, Dolphins,  Jaguars,  Browns,  Broncos all have a big need at tackle and young QB's (assuming the dolphins draft one later). I think the Broncos will trade up. It's not about being paranoid is about reading the tea leaves.  If the tackles are as good as some are suggesting why would a team with a young QB and a dire need not take one of them? It makes no sense to pass up the opportunity.

anyone could.  dolphins could also take a qb, browns could trade back, broncos could take a wr.  jags could also take a qb or wr.  some of these teams like the dolphins and jags have multiple first rounders and can take OL later in round 1 if not round 2.  the giants could easily take simmons and then take a tackle in early round 2.  the odds of all 4 being drafted in the top 10 picks is low b/c of all the possibilities.

I don’t see the Eagles giving up that much draft capital to move up though.  Who would they be targeting at 11?  A WR?   If I were them I would just wait it out until pick 17 or so and see who is still available and maybe move up a few spots to get a guy they really like.  It doesn’t make a whole of sense for Philly to come up that far in this draft.

If you think you are a wr away from the Superbowl it's good businesses. I think they would be more likely to give a pick next year then give everything up in one year though.

I guess the question is.  If all 4 tackles were on the board at 11 would you pass them up for a WR or CB and say,  "oh I'll just draft one in the 2nd round". The answer is no.  So why would other teams do that who have just as big of a need at tackle as the Jets do? Its wishful thinking on your part. The players are there and the need is there.  Tackle is the most important position on the field besides QB. That's why they get paid as much as they do and that's why it's very rare for a top one to become available in FA.

To jump 10 spots in the 1st round it would take a lot.  The Jets are in prime position to trade bc the run on WR's starts with them.  They have a lot of leverage.  The Eagles would only be without a 2nd round pick after that trade.  They currently have 3 4th round picks.  Rumor has it that they are in love with Cee Dee Lamb.

I really think this is way outside the box. Half the top 10 will be tackles? Miami going OT would be the draft’s first huge surprise, a lesser surprise would be the jints going defense at #4.

More likely, IMHO, is more than one QB going in the top three and the fish grabbing frantically at the next QB up.

Wanted to put this in the NFL getting shut down thread but oops on that one so I guess I’ll put it here.

went Grocery shopping in my Jets Hat today. I’ve lived in the same town for 20 years and I’ve known the store manager forever. My daughter worked there and it will be my sons first job too probably.

so the manager is everywhere in the store, I’ve seen him run a cash register and today he bagged my groceries lol.

he asks me, “who are the Jets drafting this year?”

I reply, “it’s gotta be a big boy, offensive line, you gotta invest in Darnold now”

another guy hears this and asks “when is the draft?”

Another guy answers “ Thursday night “

another guy chines in “we need football, we have to have football “

the entire store was so quiet up until that and then you get like 6 guys (in masks) talking football.

I’ve changed my mind on the season. Couple of days ago I saw no way they could pull it off. No I’m praying they find some way to give us football

Excellent story, shows how sports can really bring people together. This draft will have the biggest ratings it’s ever had.

I remember Fournette being labelled as a once in a generation RB who deserved to be taken top 5.

”The Jim Brown of Today’s Era.”

Jets were either gonna take Fournette or Adams that year, whichever one dropped. I’d say they may’ve actually gotten lucky, but no way Mac gifts Bell with that contract if he’d drafted Fournette, instead.

Disagree.  If that happens you take the best weapon you can for Sam and thats Lamb.  Not harvesting picks when you can have a perfect fit talent to match with him.

If the fish try to get cute and take an OT at #5, and then try to put together a package to move up with their other first-rounders to get their QB, I would expect them to get ridiculously fleeced.

Exactly and frankly his theory makes little sense.  He's hearing other peoples' speculations and he's tweeting as if it's a good source.  5 more days of this to go.

I think Becton falls out of the top 10 now

Really hoping we go OT at 11, but if we don't and there are no trade back options, then I will be very happy wtih WR.  Jeudy, Ruggs, Lamb.  One of the 4 OTs or 3 WRs and I will be happy.  Honestly, I would probbly be okay with Jones as well.

May be a reach at 11, but I don't care.  If he can play the position for the next 8-10 years, nobody is gonna care if he was the 20th prospect on the board when we took him.

I can totally see Belli hoodwinking his fat bushman pencil ear protegee.  It will be a Bill O'Brien like trade.

If you’re Patricia and Bob Quinn and you know you’re a pair of dead men walking, it’d make sense for you to pad the runway for a return to New England. Quinn worked for the Pats for 15 years.

Stafford would instantly reinstall the pats as a super bowl contender again imo

Probably in the 2nd rd. Pats with lots of picks. Move to top of 2nd for player. Detroit gets more picks

Considering the Pats draft history its more likely they're trying to trade back since they don't have a 2nd round pick and the Lions have 2 3rd round picks to offer up to move back into the 1st round.
