maury77
Jets had a video meeting with the Iowa QB. @HawkeyeJet, what's your take on Stanley?
Popular Post HawkeyeJet
I will start by saying the Stanley is quite polarizing among Iowa fans. He is Iowa's all time leader in Wins and for the most part was a good college QB. I a on the side that believes he's a bit more highly regarded than he should be as far as his career at Iowa. I'll start with his positives. First and foremost, he's huge. Just from a stature standpoint, he's an enormous guy, especially for a QB. To go along with his large frame, he has an absolute cannon of an arm, when he wants to. He can let it rip with the best of them in this draft. He is a cool customer when it comes to demeanor. He is not rattled easily, and is a great leader(but not a fiery rah rah type). He was the unquestioned leader of the program the last 3 years and people closely speak incredibly high of him(more so than just the usual). He is a very smart player and played in a system that doesn't rely on the side checks to make reads and adjustments for you at the line. You rarely see him make that just head scratching throw or decision that results in an awful turnover. Now on to the drawbacks. First and foremost is his consistency. There are handfuls of games in his career where you watch him and you'd think he's potentially a 1st or 2nd Rd pick. A few years back when Iowa stomped Ohio State at home, he was unstoppable. Looked like Big Ben version 2. However, those games are not the norm. The biggest reason for his overall inconsistency is because his accuracy is streaky, and more often bad than good. His big issue is his touch. He just has issues on when to throw the heater and when to take it off, and does so in weird situations. Flares and check downs to backs come out way hotter than they should, but a lot of hitches and outs(which Iowa runs a ton) come out with less on them then his fastball that is thrown when it shouldn't be. His deep ball accuracy is streaky, but overall I'd say is ok at best. His accuracy is the biggest question mark for me. I think he is too conservative most of the time, and gives up on reads/plays in the middle of the field because that's a high risk area. There is a fine line between not being risky in the middle of the field and being too conservative. He's too conservative. He's basically a statue. He's very heavy footed and plodding, so don't expect him to extend plays by running(although he's insanely effective on QB sneaks, i'm talking chunks of yardage effective) If a team is looking for a guy who could be a solid backup for a while, I think Stanley could be that. His positives will allow him to step into a game and not embarrass himself and give his team a punchers chance. Due to his inconsistency and accuracy issues though, i doubt he ever becomes even a fringe starter in the NFL 6
PepPep
He looks a lot more mobile in the highlights but I'll take your word for it @HawkeyeJet Where do you see him going? Round 5-6? Or UDFA...
Adoni Beast
You can’t teach accuracy. So that’s a concern. But take him in the 6th or 7th and see what happens.

Round 5-6? Or UDFA... I'd be shocked if he doesn't get drafted. Based on the physical tools and already handling a lot of NFL type line checks, I can't imagine he goes undrafted. My guess would be RD 6.
mrcoops
I definitely get the feeling that the Jets are looking to add a potential backup QB late. Stanley, James Morgan, Cole McDonald - someone in that 5th-6th round range to challenge Fales and White for the backup job.
Beerfish
Sounds like hackenburg.
nycdan
I think I like Jake Luton a bit more as a day-3 backup. He's tall, has huge hands, and had a very productive last season at Oregon St. Like all those guys, he has flaws and doesn't project to be a starter, but I think he may have a bit more upside if things click. Tinstar
He’s got great tools, but he’s a mistake waiting to happen. He’s the Geno Smith of college football. He can look great one minute and have you scratching your head and pulling your hair the next. Steven Montez is a better option Sent from my iPhone using JetNation.com mobile app

Draft Hackenburg in the 6th round, without any plan for him to start any time soon (or the pressure that comes with that) and you're doing ok
