People make fun of Gettleman, but he’s building a pretty good team over there.

They have some nice young talent on offense but their defense was an abomination last year.

They need to walk out of this draft with some contributing defensive players.

A little early to give up on QW don’t ya think you insufferable prick?

He flat out sucks for a 3rd overall pick, as in stinks for that draft spot.

I am sure you could insert hackenburg, lee, polite into a lot your posts like this.

Who's building the defense?

They have a bunch of good pieces. Bradberry and Baker at CB, Dexter Lawrence at DT, and Lorenzo Carter at OLB. They need more, obviously, but Jones, Barkley, Slayton, and Thomas is a good nucleus on offense.

JiF's ideal draft

1st - OT - preferably Andrew Thomas

2nd - RD - WR preferably Tee Higgins/Denzel Mims but since they're probably going 1st RD; Michael Pittman or Brandan Aiuyak

3rd - OL - dont really care names here but; Ruiz, Hennessey, Cushenberry, etc.

3rd - WR - Chase Claypool, Van Jefferson, David Duvernay

4th - RB - McFraland, Benjamin, Gibson.

Dont care the rest of the way, offense solved.

Jets hoping Hennessy falls to them in round three

(via Tony Pauline, 9:25 am ET)

I continue to hear from a variety of sources that the Jets are seriously considering Matt Hennessy of Temple if he’s available in round three, something I first reported two weeks ago.

The question is whether Hennessy will be around when the Jets are called to the clock in the third round. With limited talent at the guard position available through the initial three rounds and many teams projecting Hennessy to guard, he may be pushed into round 2

If so, this would be in line with the formula I think they should follow and the way things have lined up, I'd stick to it.  At least the positions, maybe not the order but things have lined up very well to execute the strategy and fill some glaring needs for the Jets.  They truly are set up to completely revamp the offense.

If the Jets come away with Becton, Higgins/Mims/Hamler/Shenault, Hennessy.  I'd be absolutely stoked.   That said, I'm pretty excited about the OL and I might consider RB earlier depending on who is around in the 3rd.  For example; if they can grab Hennessy and Akers is sitting their with the 2nd 3rd RD pick, I would consider that over the BAP WR and wait till the 4th for another WR.  Especially if they land Higgins/Mims in the 2nd.  I'd feel much more comfortable waiting longer if we had what I think are pretty sure bets.

No D in the first 3.

Very good young nucleus on offense, but I'm not convinced about those defensive pieces at all.

Since Gettleman took over they have gone 5-11 and 4-12 (worse than almost any team in the league, including us), taken an uber-hyped RB at #2 overall (who had a very mediocre year last year), taken Jones (who I like), and drafted a bunch of players of defense who haven't made an impact yet (they ranked 24th overall last year on defense).

I'd would be ecstatic (add Higgins to 2.)

Then take your favorite WR in the 4 (maybe a Jefferson or Duvernay fall and it becomes a wet dream) or more likely a Gandy-Golden/Hill/Edwards/Johnson which would still be an incredible overhaul of the offense.

Definitely a lot to prove, and they made a mistake by trying to stay with Eli for too long, but as rebuilds go, it appears to be promising.

I dont think the selection of Becton (who did play both LT/RT in college) means they dont trust Fant.  Besides, they might have Becton start the year at RT.  He probably just meant they're fine going WR if all the OTs are gone.

I feel like it’s going to be WR, RB, and a wild card that could be edge, CB, interior line, or a WR double dip (likelihood of wild card pick in that order).

I think the center thing *kind of* makes sense. I know McGovern was a good guard, but did he get paid $9M to play guard? Feel like center is more of a priority position and he got compensated accordingly. Not great business to kick him to a less valuable position.

I could see them dropping and taking Hennessy if he’s there. He’s a good scheme fit, sharp, seems like a guy Doulgas would like, McGovern can play guard. But it also kind of feels like a lazy rumor initiated months ago because his brother is on the team and they needed a center before FA. Ezra Cleveland to the Browns esque.

Feels like a clever smokescreen more than anything.

with wr, cb and edge as big needs i see rb being pushed back to tomorrow.  wr and cb are near certainty tonight.  the other pick could be OL or edge.

Yeah the RB position is probably similarly volatile to interior line. I think it’s more likely a RB is there. Honestly think it’s a sleeper for 48.

Bell’s almost definitely gone next year. I’m sure Gase would love another option this year. And the backup now is Cannon? They can always sign a cheap vet to back up after the draft but man it’s going to be an absolute crater next offseason if they don’t address it today. Which is fine. But I think it’s a solid short term and long term play and there are several solid backs remaining. Rounds 2 and 3 are obviously a historical sweet spot for getting discount elite production at the position as well. Similar to WR.

We could go OL with every pick and I'd be happy.  You hope a few actually make the team or perform to expectations.

Yeah . . . No.

WR is currently a weaker overall positional group than OL.

You could make an argument that our WR corps is as weak as any in the NFL. It's certainly bottom 3-5.

Scot McCloughan probably approves of Hennessy

I hear you.  But I'm sick of watching a joke OL fail week after week.  Until the O line is secure, Sam is not.

after round 1, what wr corps is worse than the jets? maybe 3.  jets must go wr in round 2.

NFL Network and ESPN both suck so bad!!! And that makes me sad. Right now I either have to listen/watch three frats boys and pretty woman on NFL Network or two obnoxious, clueless loudmouths  (Stephen A and Max Kellerman) and a pretty woman on ESPN?  Why can't there just be a channel with normal, smart, laidback people who really know sports talking about sports. Kay whatever her name on NFL Network is the only one I can actually stand.

I can't think of one that is definitively worse that ours. Maybe the Pats?

I mean, Perriman could be good for us and Crowder is a very nice slot guy, but I just don't see a lot of sure things outside of Crowder (who has some injury history).

I would go so far as to say that we need to draft a minimum of two WRs in this draft.

The jackasses in charge of the networks have decided it’s more important to be “hip” than just simply report on sports news.

I stopped watching ESPN a few years ago when they started getting overly political and literally every anchor/pundit started thinking they were the next George Carlin and would constantly crack lame ass jokes every other sentence.

NFL Network was a nice escape for a while, but then they brought in the Kyle Brandt’s, Nate Burelson’s, and Michael Robinson’s to make it totally unwatchable.

Cowherd’s show on FS1 is literally the only tolerable one left.

It's unbearable!!! I know what you're saying too. NFL Network was so refreshing at first then they went in on the 3 dbags. Burelson strikes me as a likable guy who will just shift to his envirmoment which is too bad, bc he's awful on the show. Bradt and Robinson are ******* heinous. I really mean it. Like, wft is going on. This is a disaster and who is liking this bs? So disapointing.

But so then I get annoyed and swithc to ESPN and get even more annoyed

Shortly thereafter, he spoke to Douglas, who was poised to include a fourth-round pick to move from 11 to 9.

After hanging up, Caldwell told the Khans, Marrone and others in the Jags' video conference, "If we trade back to 11, I think the Jets will take a tackle, but we have to worry about Atlanta going to 10 and taking one of the guys (we're targeting). If we go to 11, we have to be comfortable with CJ Henderson, Chaisson or (Alabama receiver) Jerry Jeudy. The value with the Jets' trade is good, according to the analytics. With Atlanta, the analytics say we lose the trade. We can say yes to the Jets, just as long as you're OK with (possibly) taking a receiver -- which is fine."

At 9:06 p.m., with the Cardinals (who picked eighth overall) on the clock, Caldwell got another call from Douglas. "You're gonna stay put?" Caldwell asked. "Alright, sounds good."

Joe Douglas is my hero. Once he saw the Cards pick Simmons he stayed put at 11 bc he knew either Becton or Wills was going to be available. If Cards picked a lineman he was going to jump Cleveland at 10 and move up to 9 for a 4th round pick.

That's dope
