PepPep
Really curious to know why he slid so far. Otherwise, love the pick. Jets needed a WR like him desperately and to get him after moving down and netting an extra 3rd was excellent work by JD.

He also crushed the senior bowl process. He's 207 Lbs. But good to know he lead the nation in contested catches. Darnold just has to get him a catchable ball. derp
Mims crushed the Senior Bowl, broke out at 19, hits the weight threshold, has elite size, had elite agility drills, and has wheels. I feel like he got dinged because he’s old - even though be broke out young so that’s a nonissue - and because he’s had issues with drops in 2018 - but he had a broken hand. Stud. I’m beyond excited.

NamathToCaster
Can't believe it. Great size and speed. So used to the Jets drafting midget wide receivers. Sam Darnold must be ecstatic!

fullblast
Here's a little excerpt from PFF regarding Mims' limited route assignments at Baylor, and how his pre-draft performances put to bed any doubts about his route running ability: Quote Enter the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine. Mims ran a more diverse route tree during 16 reps in the one-on-ones throughout the week in Mobile than you’d see for entire games last season. And he didn’t just win, Mims dominated. His +9.5 grade for the week was 3.0 clear of the next-highest-graded receiver in the one-on-ones. Mims won all but one rep the entire week. His combination of physicality and explosiveness was simply too much for the defensive backs in attendance to stick with. Maybe most impressive was Mims' ability to get off the line. In the clips above you can see him win with quicks, hands and pure strength at times. His go ball score in the clip above came against Notre Dame’s Troy Pride Jr., who ran a 4.4 and will likely be drafted on Day 2. Scorching Big-12 corners is one thing, but giving a top corner prospect like that the business is legit. And here are the clips they reference in the second paragraph: 1 1

fullblast
Hill's problem was that he was soft. Mims is a tough physical receiver who wins contested balls regularly. They're not the same.
Mike135
Jets: WR Denzel Mims, Baylor Grade: A. Jets go WR after OT in Round 1. Mims aced the pre-draft process. Best combine performance among WRs. Circus-grab specialist. Serious speed. Good YAC. More of a linear athlete than super twitchy. Physical blocker. Great addition for Sam Darnold. fullblast
You can see more of his YAC ability in his 2017 highlights. Great open field speed. Not sure if they ran a different offense in 18-19 but those highlights seem to feature more contested/jump ball type plays and less catch-and-run.

Played with a broken finger. Had a bad drop rate of almost 20% in 2018, it came back to 10% a year later. He doesn't have elite hands but I don't think it's a major flag at all. He'll also end up making some catches on throws that should have a low completion rate because of his catch radius and contested-catch abilities. Dcronin
Most of this guy's tape is filled with tightly contested jump balls. I love it. RED ZONE!!! Herndon, Doctson, Mims? Lotta height. That's a lot of first downs and TDs if Sam puts it on the money. Nice.
