No joke, this could happen.

If you imagine the seating chart and social distancing standards, you'd have to have 2 seats between fans left/right and then have an empty row behind them.  Rough math says that 80% of the fans would be eliminated, leaving 16,500 attendees at MetLife.

My 4 seats, I'd be allowed to use 2 of them, maybe, if I'm lucky.  What happens to my friends in Row 2?  Gone.  You'd report to your section, queue 6 feet apart from others, and be escorted by ushers in biohazard suits to a random seat that's appropriately distanced, the rest would be taped off.

Scary.

Yea and every game we alter the seats so that everyone can go to a few games.
its not rocket science and feasible

SARS has been around since the early 2000's, MERS since ~'09 - no vaccine for either disease.   We stopped everything in the US for the last 6 weeks which was a huge mistake and now that the data is coming in it's time to stop with the fear mongering and react to the data.   There is literally no reason to delay the NFL season.   The 'at-risk' population (over 65, obese, immune comprimised) shouldn't go to games.   Everyone else - wash your hands, stay home if you're sick.

Where is your data coming from?  Dr Drew?  There are many people who are having complications because of medical issues they don’t even know about.

Curious how do you do limited capacity crowds?  75,000 people with season tickets, who gets to stay home and how is that determined?

There was an article (I wish I remember where it was) that shows a model basically seats would be in groups of four and then spread out.  Basically a row would have 2-3 groups of 4 seats so 8-12 total followed by an empty row.  How the teams would implement the rest I have no clue.

Oh, I have no doubt they can come up with a floorpan for getting the most people safely into the stadium and seated safely apart from one another.  My question is take teams like the Jets and Giants who go into the year with a lot of seats pre sold with season tickets.  That number wouldnt fit into the stadium with that kind of new seating plan.  What are they going to tell people they have to stay home?

Its crazy times

I love all these amateur virologists

Coronavirus killed what 55,000 Americans?  It would have killed at least another 100,000 with no social distancing last 2 months

The NFL has the luxury of sitting back and watching what happens with baseball this summer. The MLB is considering options that include playing all games in just 4-6 cities, with hopes of getting underway in July. If baseball doesn’t feel comfortable playing in every stadium by September, that probably doesn’t bode well for football.

However, if baseball is playing in all of its stadiums by August or September -without any new spikes- a full NFL season should have the green light.

If baseball is still doing its limited city thing by then, the NFL will have to make other plans like potentially playing in limited cities, themselves, and maybe without fans in the seats.

Right now the plan for Mlb is late June with games in teams’ own stadiums with no fans and temporary realignment

NFL games will probably have to be played in the south in empty stadiums

I don’t work for the government so don’t understand the logistics,  I’m just quoting an article from The NY Times - now I know they haven’t been trusting journalist of late, but why would they make stuff up.

The point of this article is they are clearly taking logitistics into account..

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/27/world/europe/coronavirus-vaccine-update-oxford.html

I can’t possibly imagine how the US government and Oxford University couldn’t or wouldn’t work in conjunction with one another.

Read the article..

It’s all about money.  Multiple pharmaceutical companies are going to want to profit off this and we have no public health infrastructure in America which is why we have a third of the world’s coronavirus cases

very few people are getting vaccinated this September if the vaccine even works

Supposedly a company based out of the UK has a vaccine that will be ready by September.  That’s why they want to move the start of the season

Yeah...OK.

You want to take that vaccine?

Still don't know of a successful vaccine for a Corona Virus...the SARS virus vaccine was never realized.

May work, but hanging anyone's hat on the development of a vaccine to save the NFL season is far fetched.

TAILGATING = HERD IMMUNITY

Tailgating will be huge, but we can only eat food from herd animals. Wildebeest and Bison Burgers for everyone.

Why move it back right into the teeth of phase 2. Just play it with no crowds in small stadiums

I don't see them playing in front of fans, this is part of the reason why. Too many unknowns. Opening gyms is one thing but we are talking about putting 80,000 people together.

You have made your point and you are going way off topic. Help me, help you.

There will be plenty of people my age and yours who are at a higher risk (I am) for a variety of reasons that would be just fine passing on attending any 2020 games.   I am one of them.  Life & health >> NFL.

The fans in the stands and the stadium workers would be at risk for infection. Probably 30% of them will have co-morbidities that would elevate them to high risk for poor outcomes. The players? Not so much. If boxers are allowed to compete while HIV positive, healthy 20-30 year old men should be able to play this year. Having said that they should have the final say if they wanna go.

Oh and think of all the movies we see with CGI crowds.  Pump in the fan noise (like some teams already do) and the weird no fans in the stands on TV problem is solved.

I get that, I’m at a higher risk also other than because of age.  I probably would be ok with giving up a few of my season tix but what if the people want to give or sell their tickets to someone they know, a family member?  I’m guessing, you’re right, some will comply and gladly give up their seats but others?  If in a cluster of seat few are ok with a refund how do you decide who has to give up their seats?  I don’t know about you but I know at least a few who think this is all overblown and we should be allowed to make our own decisions on what’s safe or not safe.
Going to be hard if it comes down to this

You can stay locked in for a year or two? You can afford that? Mentally? Financially?

Yes I can financially but I have responsibilities, so I don't have the option of putting myself at risk. So mentally - I'll just have to deal with it.

I don’t disagree.  Even if the vaccine works it will take a very long time for Joe and Jane jerkoff to have access

I don’t think that is true. CDC also just cut the death toll in half because of bad reporting

Regarding the supposed vaccine, I'll share this from the UK;

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51665497

Key paragraph below:

When will we have a coronavirus vaccine?

A vaccine would normally take years, if not decades, to develop. Researchers hope to achieve the same amount of work in only a few months.

Most experts think a vaccine is likely to become available by mid-2021, about 12-18 months after the new virus, known officially as Sars-CoV-2, first emerged.

That would be a huge scientific feat and there are no guarantees it will work.

Four coronaviruses already circulate in human beings. They cause common cold symptoms and we don't have vaccines for any of them.

I haven't lived in the NYC area in a long time so I really don't know what's going on there except from media, which is all honesty has become a total joke.

I read recently that the subways are still running, but cut back 25% of service.  From the pictures I've seen the trains that are running aren't practicing social distancing.  Nor is it being enforced by anyone. Strikes me that there is no better way to transmit a virus then in the stale air of a subway system.

It seems extremly hypocritical, and politically motivated to shut down open air sporting events, and public beaches unless they shut down ALL mass transit.  Doesn't make any sense.

This virus, like every other virus before it, has to run it's course.  High risk people have to be smart and protect themselves, but the rest of the population is going to be exposed over a period of time no matter what.

All the social distancing does is slow the spread down, and avoid hospitals from being overwhelmed.  I don't know what it's like in NY, but in Florida hospital census are running 40-50%.

It's time
