this is why gase is such a terrible coach - "he doesn't fit his system".

good coaches adapt a system to their players.  if Julio Jones would somehow become available, would he not be considered here if he doesn't "fit the system"?  i'm tired of that excuse.

OL is a little different than WR in regards to a system

I can't see a guy like Warford being a fit for what we are trying to do. Then throw in the fact how many guards we've already added to the roster and it doesn't seem feasible.

The thing to look for I think will be if someone for some reason cuts a viable Center option.  Everything I've heard is while the jets are more than comfortable with mcgovern at center, they feel he is a better guard, so if they could add a viable center and shift him over to LG they would absolutely entertain that.

Yeah, who cares of hes been a pro bowler the last 3 years.

It was reported that the Saints, despite his being named to pro bowl again this year, felt his performance has slipped, for what that’s worth.

A couple of things concerning Warford:

- Does he fit the scheme we are creating?  How nimble/athletic
is he?

- He's going to want a 3-4 year deal in the neighborhood of 36-
48 million

- I wonder if his play is declining.  I know NO wanted to free up
cap space but they are a premier offensive team with an older,
immobile QB.  Wouldn't they want the most secure OLine possible
to keep Brees upright?  If Warford's play hasn't dipped why didn't
NO try to trade him?  Why not get a future draft pick from a team
looking to strengthen their OLine?  WSH was able to get two picks
for Trent Williams and he hadn't played for over a year

I snooped around Saints forums, the consensus seems to be he’s a good player and they’re shocked they couldn’t get a small something in trade. Figure he was cut so they can extend or move quicker on a free agent instead of waiting around for a trade.

They already extended two other OL and drafted younger so he was the odd man out. Also wonder if he showed up to camp out of shape and had attitude problems. (They we’re trying to figure if there was more to the story)

Gregg Williams should just dump his system and sign anyone who runs fast

Right? and If GW doesn’t change his system for every new free agent (as they become available), he must be a bad coach.

Complaints I’ve seen about Warford from saints forums and subreddit: slow, gets beat in space, was in Payton’s dog house. At initial glance it makes sense to want this guy, but big slow lineman that get beat in space doesn’t seem to fit the athletic approach jets have been going on the o-line for their zone blocking scheme.

The New Orleans Saints had their reservations about right guard Larry Warford before they ever used their first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on center/guard Cesar Ruiz. But with Ruiz’ addition, Warford and his $12.85 million cap hit have now became expendable. The guard has been on a downward trajectory in terms of expected production and has fallen out of favor with the team.
