  1. 1. Given the opportunity, which one of these events in Jets' history would you change?

    • Jets draft Marino instead of O'Brien
    • Jets draft Brett Favre (in other words, pretend the Falcons didn't take him 1 slot ahead of us)
    • Belichick would've stayed on as HC of the NYJ for the long-term
    • Jets draft Peyton Manning (in other words, he would've had to leave after let's say his Junior season and Parcells would've taken him)
    • Jets draft Tom Brady (as per their scout who supposedly pleaded with Parcells to take him)
    • Jets draft Russell Wilson (who Bradway supposedly "pounded the table" for)
    • Jets draft Lawrence Taylor (who we missed out on by getting a meaningless win over the Dolphins in the "no announcers" game)
    • Jets draft Jerry Rice over Al Toon
      0
    • None of the above ("Eeyore!")

Manning. Just have too much hate for Marino.  Also.  I don't know if I ever bought Bradway's "pounding the table" about Russell Wilson as genuinely true.  I believe there were a number of players he "in retrospect" would like the have taken.  It always seem funny to me how much this was expressly delivered by the press when the rest of the personnel department was taking the shaft for past failures.  Seems like a great way for a NFL executive to build up public support for his job performance.

I said Peyton Manning. Great QB and a guy I’ve always respected as a person, too. Substitute Manning for Sanchez in 09/10. Super Bowl Champs.

As much as i despise the evil genius Belichick, I respect the hell out of him as the guy in charge. This was a close second for me. If BB stays on and runs this team, I don’t think there’s any doubt we’d have been a more successful team over the last 20 years. Bad GM’s like Idzik and Macc wouldn’t have had the chance to screw up our drafts.

I picked Belicheat for two reasons:  1) The team he would have inherited was close.  No Groh, no Herm, you never know.  2) If I have long term Belicheat, there's NO WAY I get Tannenbaum, Idzik and MacCagnan back-to-back-to-back...

The obvious answer is Marino, he was on the board and we passed him for a Division II QB. Ridiculous move.

The Chiefs took Blackledge over Marino. And the Patriots took Tony Eason ahead of him.

We weren’t the only ones looking bad over that draft.

Then how about we leave Bill as the HC as he was in 1997 and not bring in the Tuna? The Tuna said he was only going to coach for 3 years think about how things may have been different..

In retrospect, pooling O'Brien's draft selection with the rest of the other QB jags in the '83 draft seems forced.  He was a two time Pro Bowler and AFC POY.  The Jets were morons not to select Marino.  but like a lot of bitter jocks with chips on their shoulders (Durant, Brady) Marino has a complex about where he went (Ken's selection felt most acutely.)  It's obvious from that "Elway to Marino" documentary that he still thinks about it.  But the fact that Blackledge and Eason were such washouts probably makes it easier for ego to take.  O'Brien had a pretty decent record against Marino.  It wasn't as easy to silence the doubt that he was that much better.

We would have used a 1st on him said Ron Wolf had we not used it on Rob Moore in the supplemental draft. When Wolf went to the Packers he used a 1st rd pick to the Falcons to get Farve a year later..

Blackledge and Eason were not reaches, they were projected to go where they went. It just didn't work out as the draft is an inexact science. The Jets reached for a Division II rather than take the obvious QB.  It was a ridiculous move.  I was watching the draft when the pick was announced, I was shocked to say the least.

He was busting in Atlanta, and would have busted in NY without a Holgren type to reign him in.  My 2 cents.

The 85, 86 Jets with Marino would have been fin to watch.

Killed me but I picked Belichik, Jets have been so dysfunctional from top down. He would’ve brought stability for a long time.

Belichick lucked into Brady in NE. While he certainly is a good HC, I'm not sure he has the same success with the Jets. Marino was a flat out great QB.

I wonder what happens with Marino under center in 86 when we start 10-1, lose 5 in a row, back into the playoffs, beat KC and then lose to Cleveland in the Gastineau game?

I always find that hindsight is useful after the fact. I remember people questioning the Mahomes pick, saying he was a project and would need a lot of time to develop. Even Watson had flaws in his game that some deemed too risky. And of course Mitchell Trubisky was “rising up the boards” leading up to the draft, and the Bears were smart to trade three draft picks to move up one spot to get him. Just like Sanchez with the Jets. Shrewd move Tanny!

All wrong.

Wrong he could have had Manning but made no move to promise him he would be the 1st pick in the draft. Even Manning's mother said they waited to hear from the Tuna and he never made a effort so Peyton went back to school..

Im not so sure Belichick is as successful without Brady and Im not so sure Brady is as great as he's been without Belichick - it was the perfect storm - so I didn't go with either of those picks. Without each other who knows - I guess we find out some this year. Jets would of won a superbowl with Marino - with Toon and Walker and Freeman McNeil and Klecko and Gastineau - not that sack machine O'Brien. My pick was Marino.

Eason got to the same number of Superbowls as Marino did (and had the same record in the Superbowl).  Blackledge was a washout.  Eason was a pretty decent QB (similar to O'Brien).

Brady, Peyton, Marino, Favre: 4 of the NFL's all-time greatest QBs and includes the GOAT

Lawrence Taylor: Probably the GOAT defensive player

Jerry Rice: GOAT WR

Belichick: Probably the GOAT HC.

So we only missed out on the GOAT QB, WR, Defensive player and HC.

Marino.

Best QB of the ones listed and the only choice other than guessing Brady would become an all time great, that doesnt take multiple alternate realities to take place.  He was there for the taking and we screwed the pick up.  All on us, didn't need help from Atlanta, the Manning family, the Giants (LT), etc.  Was all on us

Belichick is the surest Super Bowl. If he stays, Brady is wearing a number other than 12 in green. If Beli drafted him there, he would’ve drafted him here.

Next surest Super Bowl is Marino. Those Jet teams were close. Marino with that defense?

Just drafting Brady is only appealing in the sense that the Pats aren’t as good then. As a Jet without Belichick, he’d’ve been Bryce Petty.

Who would've thought that the last person to get a vote would be Jerry Rice.  I thought Russell Wilson would get 0 votes and maybe Rice might get a couple of votes.

Bill Walsh wanted Toon over Rice. This poll answer would be reversed if the Jets has taken Rice, instead.
