TRADING ADAMS FOR DRAFT PICS WOULD BE A CONSISTENT BUSINESS DECISION

If your business is losing football games and never making the playoffs.  Could you imagine what the Johnson Brothers would be doing if they didn't inherit billions.  Pizza Delivery might be a stretch.  Anyway, it's all BS until the games start.

If the Jets haven't "won anything" during Jamal Adams' tenure, it's not his fault.  He has played consistently at a very high level, something that most Jet fans don't understand because most of their players are barely average at best.  A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush but you probably don't understand what that means.  Maybe if you're lucky, the 2020 season will be canceled.  Then you can keep the BS flowing uninterrupted for another year.

BREAKING: Jamal Adams to 49ers “Picking up Steam”

Potential bombshell.

I just got a direct message from a well-placed source saying Jamal Adams to the 49ers is “picking up steam.”

This doesn’t mean Adams is coming to the 49ers, but it certainly has more reality than it did a few days ago. And it would be a big deal.

Adams, 24, was an All Pro strong safety for the New York Jets in 2019, meaning he was the NFL’s best strong safety last season. He intercepted one pass, batted down seven passes, forced two fumbles, recovered one fumble, scored one touchdown and recorded a whopping 6.5 sacks -- rare for a defensive back.

The Jets took Adams with the sixth pick of the 2017 draft -- three picks after the 49ers took defensive lineman Solomon Thomas, a bust. Adams has exceeded expectations, and missed only two games during his three-season career. Recently, Adams demanded a trade, and listed the 49ers as one of seven teams he would like to join.

Adams played college football at LSU. Meaning he conceivably could reach out to 49ers outside linebacker Kwon Alexander, who also went to LSU, and ask Alexander to lobby the 49ers to trade for him.

Alexander might not have to lobby hard. Adams is great, available, young and not particularly expensive. The 49ers would have to pay him $7.1 million in 2020, and $9.8 million in 2021 before extending his contract in 2022 when the salary cap could be $50 million dollars higher than it is now.

Adams instantly would become the best player in a 49ers secondary that could lose three starters in 2021 -- Richard Sherman, Jaquiski Tartt and K’Waun Williams. All will be free agents.

If Adams joins the team, he would be the foundation of the 49ers secondary for the next five to 10 years.

That's kind of the point.  He doesn't move the needle in either direction.  The Jets could have gone about 5-11 each of the last 3 years without him.

Joe Douglas is a well-respected front office exec who seems to have a plan in place, unlike his predecessors.  The Jets' past decisions have nothing to do with what Douglas would or should do.  If it had been up to him, I have little doubt in my mind he would have passed on Adams at # 6 overall in 2017.

Mike Maccagnan, meanwhile, would have already given Adams a 5-year deal worth $100M with $40M+ guaranteed by now.

Not sure how much thought you have put into this thread but Darnold is 23 and this was JDs first offseason and draft where he was able to start to build a core and culture in the team. JD is signed long term and Darnold will most likely get a huge extension barring serious injury or massive drop off in play. He is the centerpiece of this team. Majority of the other players have outs, are on cheap rookie deals, have expiring contracts, or have just been signed to one year 'prove it' deals. Adding draft pick capital for the next two drafts COULD be critical to infusing the team with young, cheap talent at positions of need when we are not in a position with tons of cap space having paid Darnold and other vets on what I would assume is a much, much improved Jets team (hopefully playoff caliber) in 2-3 years.

Just depends of how much value the Jets see in Adams and if that coincides with their potential rebuild and run by 2022-23.

you don't build a winning team by getting rid of young good players without a darn good reason.  obviously adams can become a cancer or be too disruptive to keep.  or the jets could be offered an extremely good deal.  we'll see what happens.  training camp is a month away and we'll know more if adams reports for camp.

Yeah when you SS wants 20mil per, it better be a business decision. There’s not a single safety in the league worthy of 20 mil per. And won’t be for another 5 years.

I love the fact that two JN posters were able to take Adams comment about other teams not taking calls/trade proposals regarding their best players and successfully turning that into a now accepted narrative that Adams wants $20 million per year.

He’s never once said that, yet people here just roll with it as if it were true.
