When they made the playoffs in 01 Chad didn't play, Ellis struggled, Coles had 59 recs and becht was what he always was- a blocking TE. The 1998 team core was all Steinberg/Kotite players, do we take credit away from BP? In that 2000 Groh draft Chad would eventually play about 3 mostly healthy seasons, Abraham 4, becht was gone after 5 seasons, Coles left after starting for 2 seasons. We had ONE long term player from the 2000 draft

Bradway hung on far too long here and Maccagnan's choice to cut him loose was one of the best moves he made. That and Osemele .

He came on board in 2001 and was fired after the 2014 season. From 2001-2014 the Jets made the playoffs 6 times, won a division title, won 6 playoff games and reached 2 AFC Championship Games and never saw 2 consecutive losing seasons. From 2015-2019 we haven't made the playoffs and are currently on a streak of 4 consecutive losing seasons. i'm not so sure about the gm job. there was the jolley/nugent year and he never did get a replacement qb when it became known chaddy was too much of a china doll. but he was a really good scout and knew how to evaluate players. The problem with the 2005 draft was not the Holley trade, it was the evaluation of prospects. Going into that draft all the talk was the Jets were targeting Justin Miller and Mike Nugent. With their 1st Rd pick they moved down 19 spots, got a starting veteran TE(remember they just lost becht) and more picks which led to another trade to select future 2nd team all pro Kerry Rhodes PLUS they were still able to draft Miller and Nugent. The trade was a good one, the execution of the draft picks early in that draft were not good. 2 hours ago, rangerous said: yep. i think the whole notion of a coach succeeding because of the previous coach's players is a little overblown. there's just too much turnover year over year. parcells got kind of lucky because vinny was able to take over when foley went down. Yep and vinny was signed to be a backup in July just before camp. He helped him succeed but he hit the lottery with him. Parcells was an all time great coach but as a GM type he really struggled. Parcells had 3 putrid drafts and one "great" draft. The "great" draft we needed to trade Keyshawn and Belichick to get all those extra picks, was it worth it? And only 1 of those players was a long term starter so when we peel it back that draft wasn't what it seems on the surface.
