Who Is The Best (Non QB) Player In The NFL

Recommended Posts

Aaron Donald and George Kittle.

I'd argue they are the "best" players in football, QBs included.  That  largely depends on how you define best though.

I gave you my top two.

I give the slight edge to Myles because he's 4 years younger. If they were the same age I'd go with Donald.

Since its so hard to compare across positions, I'd have to go with the guy who is clearly the best at a position of importance.

Last year, Michael Thomas had 149 catches.  45 more than any other WR in the game.

His 1,725 yards eclipsed the next best (Julio Jones - 1,394) by 331 yards.

His catch % was 80.25 %.  Absolutely absurd.

And he did all this without a capable WR2 across from him, and with a QB who, while still great, was 40 years old last season.

And his 2019 numbers aren't some complete anomaly.  He's steadily gotten better every season.  92 catches as a rookie, 104 catches in 2017, 125 in 2018 and 149 last season.  His yardage went up from 1,137 to 1,245 to 1,405 and then the 1,725 last season.  The sky is really the limit on what he can do.

It's Michael Thomas, and I don't really think it's all that close.  His physicality, ability to high point the ball, his athleticism, his route running....all absurd.  He's the total package WR.

Derrick Henry RB Titans. Was just legendary last year and just a kid coming into his own. They were comparing him to Jim Brown. That’s quite the compliment.

If he has another five seasons like he did last year he’ll be in that discussion.

On a long term deal - no, because he’s a head case and they are not. But if we’re talking about right now; a game played tomorrow, I think it’s gotta be Tyreek.

D Hop & Julio are great, but also past their prime. A good argument can certainly be made for Michael Thomas. He’s certainly got the statistical advantage. I understand that.
But Tyreek is the most dangerous player with the ball in his hands.

If I’m a defensive player or coordinator, I fear Tyreek more.

D Hop is past his prime at 28?

A whole 2 years older than Hill?

You night want to rethink that

Id Take D Hop, hes the better receiver, Hills just faster

I’d take Michael Thomas over any other player, even with the Brees-inflates-his-numbers factor.

He’d be my first pick. His numbers would be good with almost any QB. The almost 100 FDs is the most important. Both him and McCaf move the chains and keep the ball that’s why I have them one and two.

Forget about the defects of his character off the field for a moment; the guy I see making the most impact in games from a non-qb position is Tyreek Hill.

His speed, both straight-line and change of direction, make him dominant.

He can't even cover a high school kid.

Seriously, he's amazing, but it was still a great chance to drop this video here.

So if you were a GM in a full redraft of the league and you picked Donald over Mahomes, your fanbase would burn your house down and piss on the ashes.  And they would be right.

Donald is amazing.  Probably the best defensive player in the league.  But the difference he offers over guys like Bosa, Garrett, Watt and others pales in comparison to Mahomes vs. any other QB.

I’m just imagining all those third-and-nines where Darnold was waiting for Ryan Griffin to get open  and what it’d look like if he could just throw it to someone like Thomas instead. I don’t know if Perriman can be that physical target for him, but lord knows he needs one.

Thought he was older. That one is on me.

D Hop is going into his 8th year in the NFL, though. Tyreek about to enter his 5th.

Anyway, yes, it’s the speed. It’s not like Hill has poor hands or sh*t route running, but his game is speed. And he’s the best at it by far, and speed is the most dangerous weapon in the game.

That's not the question. Or at least how I interpret "best". The question isn't who is the most valuable.  Or who I would take first.

Aaron Donald is a better DT than Mahomes is a QB.  Aaron Donald is quite possibly the best player at his position of all time. He might even be in the discussion for best defensive player of all time.  At this point, you couldn't make that argument for Mahomes, and possibly never will.

I also disagree the difference between Donald and other defensive tackles(although you compare him to other positions) and Mahomes and other QBs is a bigger gap in favor of Mahomes.

Do it all the time

Just to me D Hops hads and talent is special when if comes to making catches.  Getting balls others cant.  Not that I dont appreciate Hills ability to take any pass to the house.  Just think D Hop catching balls that others cant is more of a difference maker.

Also D Hops no slug.  Hill averages 14.5 per, D Hop at 13.8 is a big difference given what's around each and the offenses theyre on.  While Hill has steadily averaged 70 per, D Hop is around 90 catches per.

Hills certainly a good choice though

No it’s not, that offense/system is one of the greatest in NFL history. Thomas is an average athlete that doesn’t put fear on defenses like Julio or even OBj does. He’s A slightly better version of marquise colston

TO BE CLEAR

hes a good player, a top 10-15 WR, best player in the NFL??? Gtfo

Jerry Rice and Joe Montana were scrubs because they played for Bill Walsh.

Nick Bosa in the playoffs as a rookie was a wrecking machine.

3 playoff games.  4 sacks, 15 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 2 PD, 3 Tackles for a loss, 5 QB hits.  Right now I would take him over Donald if I was drafting a defensive player and could take anyone.

Does best mean "best relative to his position" or "most valuable."

You're not going to take Quenton Nelson over an elite pass rusher or playmaker but he's pretty damn dominant at his position.
