I could live with a slow rebuild - but you gotta actually try and rebuild and not sign others teams backups on one year deals. You’re not rebuilding anything that way.

Slow rebuilds involve avoiding massive overpays on multi-year contracts, particularly in the first offseason of the rebuild.  1-year deals are exactly how you "rebuild that way"; by not making long-term commitments until its prudent to do so.

Nothing you've advocated is how a team rebuilds.  What you've advocated are quick fixes that actually fix nothing.  Especially since the players you wanted to be added were castoffs from other organizations who saw fit NOT to keep them around.  Does that sound sustainable to you?

Joe Douglas has a 6-year contract here, not a 2-year contract.  Year 1 was not going to be about signing the Jack Conklin's of the world.  Next year he'll reassess.

Those one-year deals can lead to compensatory draft picks. Belichick has been doing it for some time.

We cast win because Joe Namath made a deal with the devil to win superbowl 3. In exchange the Jets can never win it again.

The Jets challenge is that you can't name another team that has had the following Hall of Fame caliber quarterbacks pass through their division from 1990 to 2020:

Dan Marino
Jim Kelly
Peyton Manning
Tom Brady

Everyone in the old AFC East got their franchise quarterback except us.  The good news?  As we in the post-Namath era know, it takes forever to find your franchise guy once you've lost him, so the Patriots are dead for decades, the Bills shot their shot and missed, and the Dolphins picked up Mr. Injury.

If Sam is who we think he is, get ready for 10+ years of Jets dominance, folks.  We've got the franchise quarterback, finally, and the rest have Geno Smith.

Because of GASE...

A limited roster and a swarm of injuries didnt stop Gregg Williams and his defense from putting up a great scrap.  They played good enough to win in all but three games.  Only the Ravens, Raiders and Pats make the defense look poor.  In every other game, they could have and would have won with an offense that was not last in the league.

Get rid of Gase and you get playoffs...

We barely missed out a bunch of times on potential franchise changing events.

Belichick

Peyton

Favre

Russell Wilson

Lawrence Taylor

lawrence taylor?  giaints picked 2nd and the jets picked 3rd.  hopefully the 2018 draft will have different results.

and think about that last point for a minute.  we just saw mahomes get 500 million over 10 seasons but there are a heck of a lot more qb's like josh allen or mayfield out there.  are the other afc east teams going to pay big bucks for their loser qb's?

Just like getting rid of Bowles got us to the playoffs, eh?

jets can win just fine but it's hard when the team is hamstrung by front office mismanagement and a gm (or 2 or 3) who just made bad draft picks and free agent signings year in and year out.  not to mention hiring first time head coaches instead of at least going into the college ranks.  there's just way too much earning while learning going on.

Signing journeymen to contracts that are longer than a year and pay more than needed is often a big issue why teams can't rebuild properly. The Jets operated that way for a while until Idzik cleared the cap, but he couldn't draft for his life. What players could they have signed which they didn't sign? The guard from the Pats* was franchised. The tackle which washington traded to sf had many question marks.

Fidelio wanted to throw no-knees Jack Conklin a bunch of money.  I think he also wanted Graham Glasgow.  Because those 2 guys would have surely solved all our problems.

Had we not won the meaningless game against the Dolphins (below) we would've been in position to draft LT.

So you're going with lack of caching? It sure can cause massive performance degradation.

Was just watching a video on LT and imagining how ridiculous it would have been had we had LT to go along with the Sack Exchange.
