LockeJET
Any chance he hasn't signed yet because he and his team are trying to negotiate his contract if he becomes instant starter in the event Adam's is traded? I understand the rookie wage scale but maybe they are trying to get a little bit more guaranteed money or some kind of language in the contract if he becomes starter the 1st year?

KRL
No, their rookie deal is slotted. Particularly those picked outside of round 1 there's nothing to negotiate
slats
A high third round safety should be expected to start. There's nothing unusual going on there.

Rob Moore
Didn’t Davis have a pre-draft injury? Perhaps the hold up with the contract is him passing his physical? Which can’t be performed until the players report to camp correct?

This blurb was in the rookies reporting thread: Quote The Giants have only signed one of their 10 draft picks, though agreements are in place with certain late-round picks pending a physical, per sources. Those physicals — scheduled to be spread over the course of the weekend — cannot happen until camp opens. Davis may be a guy they aren't comfortable signing until he undergoes the physical.
JetsFanatic
The salary for these picks are all slotted. Sometimes they quibble over bonus and guarantee language but I doubt it is that big an issue for a third rounder.

As the blurb states, the Giants have hardly signed anybody because they are waiting on physicals. I am sure they are comfortable signing him, but you need to see the medicals when dealing with ancillary items like injury guarantees.
LIJetsFan
I thought I read a month or so ago on these boards that Davis was over hyped and may not be ready for prime time as expected/hoped. Sorry the details elude me atm

They signed 3rd Zuniga who had injuries last year. They signed FA Cager who was injured last year. So what is different about Davis??? We arent talking about the Giants- The Jets have signed everybody else

Maybe they don't return calls as quickly? Maybe we shouldn't get all spun up about a single guy not signing his rookie deal during a pandemic where it doesn't really matter?

Greenbloodblitz
It is clearly Joe Douglas completely f****** with Jamal Adams! f****** Rightly so!!! Hopefully they give Ashtyn Davis a 10-year contract, and just to time it perfectly, FedEx delivers a bag of rocks to Jamal's Dadddys house that he can go kick. Greenbloodblitz
If Jamal can actually STFU, and we don't get cute with trading Marcus Maye who is an excellent player, adding Ashtyn Davis to that mix as a utility/role player will be some seriously dangerous s***. Davis is one of those guys that they can line up anywhere and you don't know what the hell he's going to do. Plus he returns punts and kicks and whatnot on special teams? Props to JD and his slight of-hand magic. Everybody was so focused on him building the O-line and wide receiver corps in the off-season, it went under the radar what he did for Greg Williams and the defense in the secondary.

GW is going to have a lot of fun with a combination of Adams, Maye + Davis & culling that large group of CBs JD has brought in. Top notch LB group, top notch safety trio, Poole is an excellent slot CB, if some cream rises to the top in the fight to be starting CBs, this could be a frightening group for 6 young QBs to face! Even Josh Allen will be forced to be super accurate. I don't see a lot of offensive players running freely through this group! Adams will knock you off your feet at the LOS, Maye is smooth in transition, Davis is fast as hell, Onsuewar could be in a dime package (another speedy LB,Safety hybrid). This could be a lot of fun to watch as all of the CBs JD brought in are long armed lanky types.

Jets723
Because of the pandemic it’s tougher to bring guys in for a physical and stuff so it’s not surprising it’s taking longer to sign draft picks

Free safeties are valuable ...but an excellent strong safety that is decent in coverage is infinitely more valuable when your DL is avg and you have zero edge rushers. playtowinthegame
We should bench Jamal Adams for Ashtyn Davis, and it would be even better if he had a pick-6 in his first game.
