Would Roger Goodell ever punish the Wood Man?

Recommended Posts

Adam Silver essentially banned Donald Sterling from the league. Could you see Roger acting-or would it take an insane amount of public pressure?

I just don’t want to see some BS $500,000 fine for a guy who is worth billions.

So what say you?

In one article that i read (sorry dont have link) The complaint was based on hearsay. The person filing the complaint heard nothing but somebody "told him/her" Woody made the statements. Exactly the same scenario as the BS Ukraine whistleblower.  Which was reported at that time that under normal circumstances second hand info is not an acceptable basis for the State Dept opening an investigation but since it is against Trump or his appointees it gets a full investigation.

Black people, we’re being set up and used. We’re pawns in a global political game. The attack on Woody Johnson is really an attack on Donald Trump. Johnson’s real crime was allegedly asking a British official about the possibility of The British Open Golf Championship being played at Trump’s Turnberry golf resort in Scotland.

Johnson is a Trump supporter, and Newspeak/Twitter has reduced Trump support to “systemic racism.”  Anti-black racism is now just a political ploy used by white liberals to grab political power. It’s the Democratic Northern Strategy.

Woody Johnson actually has a good record on hiring diversity and his supposed comments don't remotely compare to Sterling.

In the case of the recent allegations... No.  There was nothing specific.  Just hearsay.   However, Woody is from that old generation.  I'm sure he has some old school ignorance ingrained in his persona.  I believe that there is some smoke there even though we can't see the fire.  Yet.

Twitter Newspeak Defines Woody Johnson's Revolutionary Truth as Systematic Racism

Today I will not quote from the Bible. Instead, I’ll use the prophetic words of a celebrated and brilliant atheist to prove the danger of labeling New York Jets owner Woody Johnson a racist because he thinks black fatherhood is a “real challenge.”

The Fritz Pollard Alliance, the NFL racial diversity watchdog, issued a statement Wednesday stating the organization is “deeply troubled” by allegations that Johnson made insensitive remarks about race and gender while serving as U.S. ambassador to Britain.

According to CNN, the State Department investigated complaints that Johnson commented on the attractiveness of women, said women worked harder and cheaper than men, wondered why black people celebrate Black History Month and opined that the absence of black fathers in the home was a real challenge. A source told CNN that an official who overheard the black father remark was “stunned” and immediately reported the incident.

I’m “deeply troubled” that a State Department official was “stunned” by Johnson’s comment on the importance of black fathers. I don’t know a single black person unconcerned with the general state of the black family. Seventy-five percent of black children are born to unwed mothers and raised in homes with an absent father.

Johnson’s “real challenge” statement is as controversial and insensitive as observing water’s ability to produce wetness.

But somehow Johnson is being analogized to disgraced and bigoted former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling. ProFootballTalk founder and NBC Sunday Night Football contributor Mike Florio, who has never hired a black contributor to his website, raised the possibility of Johnson being forced out of the NFL.

It’s Orwellian. As in George Orwell, the famous atheist writer/pundit from the 1940s. Orwell wrote the dystopian novel 1984 and popularized phrases such as thought police, thoughtcrime, Big Brother and Newspeak.

In the book 1984, Newspeak is the language invented by the totalitarian government to get people to embrace English Socialism. Newspeak reduced complete thoughts to catchphrases. It dumbed down communication. Newspeak changed the way we referred to political organizations. For example, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union became Politburo.

The goal of the language was to inhibit freedom of thought, expression and identity.

Twitter is modern-day Newspeak. “Systemic racism” has been turned into a catchphrase that news organizations dependent on Newspeak/Twitter can use to define any communication or action that might make a minority group uncomfortable.

“If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” — George Orwell

Woody Johnson is the racist? What does that make the architects of modern Newspeak? What does that make the media manipulators toying daily with the emotions of black people? What does that make the New York Times?

“Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.” — George Orwell

The New York Times 1619 Project that reduces America’s entire narrative arc to slavery is an Orwellian rewriting of history. Every organized and unorganized civilization on the planet has history with human slavery. And every racial group has been a slave and enslaver. But we’re supposed to believe America is the lone country defined by that history.

“The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history.” — George Orwell

Black people, we’re being set up and used. We’re pawns in a global political game. The attack on Woody Johnson is really an attack on Donald Trump. Trust me, the purple-haired white liberals holding up Black Lives Matter signs and rioting in Portland and Seattle don’t give a f–k about black people. Those aren’t George Floyd’s friends or family members. Those are people chasing power they were denied in junior high and high school. Only a fool would think they’re going to share their new-won power.

“We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it.” — George Orwell

Should Roger Goodell and the NFL take action against Woody Johnson, banish him from their ranks, punish him for insensitivity? Hell no. And especially not for racism.  Johnson’s concern about black fatherhood makes me view him as a revolutionary ally more than a foe.

“In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” — George Orwell

Thank you for sharing this article/perspective.  Greatly appreciate it.

People complain about all kinds of gaps (education, wealth, crime), but don't want to talk about the causes of such aside from vague accusations which hold no one responsible for their own individual choices. Single parenthood, regardless of skin pigment, is a tremendous challenge for those involved. There are outliers who are wildly successful and those who do well, but statistically most don't do well coming from that situation. It's unfair to both the parent and the child. Instead we treat the subject as taboo and anyone who speaks about what is easily verified by actual data is vilified for talking about what people say they want to talk about.

Sounds kind of prejudiced. You know, kinda the same as being racist.

One who is prejudiced may or may not also be racist.  They are two different things.  The word "racist" is often used incorrectly.

A racist is a person who believes *SPECIFICALLY* that genetics are in play with respect to the qualities of what they define as different "racial" groups.  When I say qualities, I mean intelligence, behavioral tendencies and physical abilities.

You can be prejudiced and not be a convinced racist.  You can use street language and not be a convinced racist.  You can be completely PC in your speech but yet, still be a convinced racist.

A non-racist does not believe there are different sets of qualities as listed above.  They see one single race across many cultures and political systems. All with the same defects and gifts.

So older white, rich men are inherently racist?

You don't think that this nonsense is racist and makes you prejudiced and racist?

So you can make racist remarks, prejudiced too and use its just street talk as an excuse but if you're rich and white that excuse it tossed out, you're just a racist?

I'll bet anything people dont agree with you, that black activists for example arent going to accept your "its just street talk" as an excuse, will label you a racist.

I don't see where I used the exact phrase "its just street talk".  Be mindful of what you put into quotations.  People who use street language may or may not be racist.  That includes people of all skin tones.  If any individual uses language that is offensive, they may not be racist, but at the very least, they are foolish and insensitive.

Prejudice and racist are "kinda alike' as i said, that in both cases you are making wide judgements about the person based on one small piece of information such as skin color, or how much money they, or their parents have.

Prejudice and racist are not alike.  No judgements were made by me in any of my posts.  Do you believe most men and women from the antebellum south were "progressive" ??? Say yes or no and by your logic, your "prejudice".

You are complicating the obvious here.

I am not really sure there is anything he can do. While the league has the authority to punish players for off-field comments/actions, there is little proof that the commissioner, who works for the owners can punish owners that way. Each league has different rules, but when has an owner been 'punished' by the commissioner for a non-football related incident? he certainly didn't get involved when Kraft was chasing happy endings based on a police report and a video - not sure how he can force woody to sell at all - especially off a news story.

I understand what you are getting at, though.  Not every old geezer is an ignorant bigot or chauvinist. If that was the case, we never would have gotten civil rights in the 60's.  Still... With older generations, in the main, the percentage of enlightened people was smaller.
