Draft Capital During Covid-Affected Seasons

The Jets just acquired additional draft capital — two 1’s and a 3rd. People are shocked that Adams could net draft capital equivalent to Ramsey and Mack. It’s a heist for the Jets. Not so fast.

The argument can be made that the draft capital is not quite equivalent given the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming college football season and the uncertainty around accurate evaluation of prospects.

Decisions by major conferences have not even been made yet regarding the 2020-21 season with many already postponing games or moving to conference only games. Entire seasons could be canceled before or even during the season. Players and teams could continue to be quarantined and miss time. Rutgers just quarantined it’s entire team, and fact is college players will simply not be able to fully sequester themselves because...college...

Scouting and prospect evaluation is going to be...difficult.

Seattle may have recognized this calculation: better off trading “more uncertain than usual and therefore less valuable” draft picks for an established All Pro player in these v uncertain circumstances.

It’s nice to have draft capital. But if I’m JD I am looking to swing a deal with some of that for an established player at a position of need.
