I love Florida...for vacation.

My ideal spot in Florida: west coast near Fort Myers.  Specifically, Sanibel/Captiva Island.  One of the most relaxing places I've ever been.

And I love Disney World, although, I haven't been there in 15+ years?

Any Disney World fans?

Any Sanibel fans?

I think when people say Florida, most are referring to the moldy soup concoction that is South Florida and/or the quasi-Southern areas that seem to be the global market hub for incest porn.

I truly hope you are right and I'm just being pessimistic, but based on the behavior I'm seeing right here in NNJ, I don't think so.  When the kids go back to school and start bringing the virus home to their elders it's going to be awful.

Working as an admin in a school in Jersey right now. It’s a daunting task that I don’t see being successful. If a billion dollar industry like MLB can write a 150 page plan and not be able to keep millionaire athletes healthy for at least a week. What hope do schools have? Plus with reports of house parties in south jersey leading to positive tests and not cooperating with contact tracing, I just don’t see how in 30 days we open schools. I’d agree and predict you’ll see a spike in a few weeks with everyone being down the shore and on top of one another.

So when you say under control, lmao... Reality is that it already took it's course in NY as it is in other states now. Which by the way was the idea of the lock down to begin with. No one ever said that we would stop the spread we merely slowed it so that the whole country didn't suffer it's full effect all at once. It's convenient for NY to now say "we have it under control" as opposed to "those who were going to get sick and die have mostly done so at this point" particularly as the initial beach head where many left the state and probably helped to spread it as they drove and flew around the country.

People, like my in-laws, think that the virus crosses from PA to NJ and says, "ohhhhhhhhhh no, we can't go into NJ, they have their cases under control and their numbers are down. time to turn around".

this notion that the virus is "under control" or "out of control" on a state by state by state basis is moronic....sorry.  Viruses don't stop at the borders.

I was driving from NC back home to SC & every other car was New Yorkers heading South & getting out of dodge.
NY Covid slowed because no one is going ANYWHERE & everyone else has left to go South or out to Eastern LI, or New England.

BECAUSE WE ARE ALL DUMB!!!!!!!!!!

Believe it or not, I've never been to Miami proper.

Boca Raton is nice.

Went to Ft. Lauderdale as a kid.

When I think of "Florida is WT", I think of: North Florida, Central Florida, etc.

My nephew works for Amazon in Jax & one of the 1st responders to that shooting a few weeks ago. He’s a physical therapist from LI & he did chest compressions but was unable to save that 20 year old.
He ran towards where the shots were fired, he was on break in his truck in the parking lot.
I guess there is a lot of crime in Jax, is that true?

Only city in the country with crime.

Just FYI, that's my wife's team.  They were all their to witness something that only happens in Jax, FL.

Manalapan is doing hybrid A/B schedule. So kids will only be in the building every other day.

Don't know what it's like by you, but I believe our school district in Manalapan is going all virtual for the fall as of now.  Might have to double-check that when I get a chance.

Covid deaths aren’t really effected by testing. Test are up which does skew the confirmed cases. NY has had 32K deaths, NJ 16K and Florida 6K. We are able to treat patients better which has lower the mortality rate a bit. What’s happening in Florida does not compare to what happened in NY. NY also had time to prepare. The virus started in China in January, it hit Italy hard in February and hit NY in March.

I dont live in Florida; so, I can’t judge with any level of confidence. From a distance, it does seem like they got a bit careless though. This thing is just going to hit states in waves. In Texas, I can assure you, we wear masks. We do curbside pickup, social distancing, and limit crowd sizes. As we gradually opened up, our cases went up. We pulled back a bit and now seem to be leveling off. This virus is relentless. There’s no other way to put it. It’s going to continue to flare up any time a state tries to reopen.

Florida is catching up.  Treatment protocols got somewhat better but (a) Deaths are a lagging indicator to begin with and (b) there is more than a little reason to think that Florida is suppressing the real numbers.

How does that make you feel?

It really bothers me, Crush. I said that if Florida was the Mental Munsters, he would be Marilyn. Apparently, that wasn't enough. I had such a good time with him and his gf when we met down there. Great afternoon. He's a Mets fan, too. This is not fun.

Sweden basically fell into the average. Not great/not bad.

Sweden did much worse than their neighbors in terms of deaths per capita and still took a similar hit to their economy. They basically reaped all of the negatives from not locking down and none of the rewards.

Good point on deaths being a lagging indicator.

This virus is just so unforgiving. When a community thinks it’s safe to come out of hiding, boom the numbers flare up. It’s frustrating to see Texas also spiking because I see most people around me doing the right thing. Our younger kids are being careless which isn’t helping. But I see people, not just with face masks, but face shields and gloves as well.

You think they’re suppressing deaths? Lol. Maybe they aren’t counting someone killed on a motorcycle & tests for Covid like NY was doing.
