Kristian Dyer: Little Change to Jets Projected win Total Following Adams Deal

Recommended Posts

Kristian Dyer of Sports Illustrated has some news for those Jets fans who think that trading Jamal Adams leaves the Jets far worse off than they were before sending him to the Seattle Seahawks.  Take a deep breath, it may not be that bad.

In a piece for SI, Dyer spoke with the folks with FootballOutsiders who dropped the Jets expected win total from 7.4 to 7.2.  That’s right.  Trading Jamal Adams has one of the more respected analytical folks in the business dropping the Jets win total by 0.2.  Hardly the end of the world.

Aaron Schatz of football outsider acknowledges the fact that the 7.2 estimate is conservative but says acquiring safety Bradley McDougald played a role in the negligible drop in projected wins.

“Adams wasn’t traded for nothing. He was traded for Bradley McDougald, who is probably a league-average starting safety. That’s a lot better than having to replace Adams with some scrub at the position”.

I used to live on Vancouver Island and it was similar to that, certainly the winters were perennially like that.

Having said that now that I am back living on the Canadian prairies and have become a winter wimp I'll the take the rain.

I heard he won three games by himself.

Jamal Adams won a game of Connect Four in three moves.

If you want a list of Jamal’ enemies, just check the extinct species list.

Jamal Adams counted to infinity. Twice.

Champions are the breakfast of Jamal Adams.

etc.

Well, if Kristian Dyer wrote it then we know it has to be true.

It's Football Outsiders. Unless they're all Jets fans there and I'm unaware of it, they don't give a crap whether we paid/kept Jamal Adams or not.

Every site I'm visiting with posted O/U wins has the Jets between 6.5 and 7.0 wins, with more of them leaning towards 6.5, whether they've been updated post-Adams or not (and most haven't).

The reality is that outside of a QB and maybe someone like Christian McCaffrey, any player that misses a game doesn't impact the spread in a game.

So not surprising that the loss of Adams wouldn't impact the win total too much. If the Jets went out tomorrow and traded draft picks for a stud edge rusher the win total wouldn't go up too much either

When the Jets are up by 3 in the 4th qtr needing a stop on defense they are going to miss their prez.

Yeah like the time Mosley got hurt in week 1 and Jamal stepped up as the leader and made that game clinching Int or FF or TFL or Sack.

That 1-0 start was crucial for our season last year.
