A True Leader

Considering this quote from Mosley about needing to "kind of find that
flame again" about football its probably good he opted out:

Rich CiminiESPN Staff Writer

Jets LB C.J. Mosley, commenting publicly for the first time on his decision to opt out, said he has a young son and didn't want to take any COVID-19 risks. In a Facebook Live event for the Wounded Warrior Project, Mosley called it "probably the biggest football decision I've made in a long time, probably since I picked what college I'm going to." He said he will use the time off to get better physically and mentally and "kind of find that flame again." (Via Newsday)

Great signing. Another New York Jets free agency masterpiece! STOP SIGNING BIG NAME FREE AGENTS! I don't want Clowney, I don't want Ryan, lets find our own guys to roll with & lets stop drafting Safeties & Dlineman in the 1st round. My goodness!

Love what McLendon brings to this team.  Every time he speaks, you relaize how valuable he is for the locker room.  He is a true, natural leader.  Not once have I ever heard him proclaim himself a leader, it just comes naturally to him.  The team needs a guy like this now more than ever.  Easy guy to root for.

You thinking of anyone specific here?😎 You are right, players know guys who are the "real goods" in the locker room. They see through BS pretty quickly.

Been banging the McLendon drum for a couple years now.  Wasn't surprised to hear Qvale single him out when we interviewed him.  Doesn't get the attention he deserves because you don't get fantasy football points for leadership or dominant play against the run, but that dude needs to be made a coach as soon as he retires.

With Jamal gone there’s now more “air time” available in the locker room. Nobody better than Steve to take it up. He’s to the D what McCown was for Darnold. His true value doesn’t come from what he can do physically, it’s all above the shoulders. We’re lucky to have him.

mcclendon has been a good pickup for the jets.  i wasn't so keen early because he was another steelers cast off but he is good and has been solid for his whole time as a jet.

I wanted him to be cut last year before I knew that both he and shepherd would be kept. I thought polite was a guaranteed spot and one of McClendon and Nathan Shepherd would have to go.  Then he was extended. :)

McLendon has been a great signing and a terrific Jet.

An effective player and a great leader. Really pleased he was re-signed for another year. We need more guys like him on the field and in the locker room.

He's carrying that flame in spirit even now that we have Joe Douglas. It was Mac's blowtorch next to large piles of Woodys money.

If I went to work on Sunday, worked for about 12 minutes, got paid 30 million dollars, my flame 🔥 would be completely dowsed. I’d be like, you want me to come to work during a pandemic? Hmm, give me some time to think about it.....uh no.

If you gave me $30 million dollars, I’d literally die in the same clothes I was wearing when you handed me that check. I would never find the motivation to change them.

Everybody is jumping on the find that flame again part, but the bold is the part that struck me.  He didn't even mention signing with the Jets.  Maccagnan outbid everybody by so much that it was a no-brainer for him.  Typical.
