Jets Exploring Options to Bolster Battered Receiving Corps

Recommended Posts

On this week’s episode of JetNation Radio, Glenn Naughton and Alex Varallo discuss the Jets wide receiver situation as things go from bad to worse with the Denzil Mims and Vyncint Smith injuries.  There is also some talk about possible free agents who can be brought in to help out.  Quinnen Williams and Mekhi Becton are garnering high praise from onlookers and what can we expect from Ashtyn Davis in 2020?

The story of the day has to do with the Yannick Ngakoue trade rumors. Would the Jets be interested in the young pass rusher? Listen to the show to find out more.

They aren't the only ones.  The 49ers and Ravens are having everybody in.  49ers had Moncrief too.  Ravens are considering Dez Bryant after declining AB and were actually turned down by Russell Shephard

The league-wide WR shortage is real.  Everyone seems to be dealing with injuries right now.

Still no workout invites for Paul Richardson or Justin Hardy, though.  @Paradis

Surprised we haven’t seen more leeching of CFL receivers. They always seem to have a handful of capable prospects who are probably looking for work right now. Duron Carter, etc

are they allowed to just come to the NFL now that they're postponed?

I believe players under contract with CFL teams need to be granted the ability to work out for NFL teams prior to doing so.  I can't imagine they wouldn't have language allowing them to sign 1-year NFL deals while the CFL season is cancelled, then come back to the CFL in 2021.

Nate Holley, one of the top CFL ROY in 2019, has already been rumored to gain some interest:

CFL rookie of the year Nate Holley hoping for NFL workouts

Posted by Michael David Smith on August 17, 2020, 5:04 PM EDT

With the Canadian Football League season canceled, a lot of football players are looking for work. Most of those players are not good enough to make it in the NFL. But a few may get the opportunity.

One such player is Nate Holley, a linebacker who won the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie award last year with the Calgary Stampeders. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Holley is expected to have NFL workouts.

It’s unclear whether CFL players’ contracts put any restrictions on their ability to leave for the NFL.

Holley played college football at Kent State and spent time in offseasons with the Vikings and Rams but has never made an NFL regular season roster. He’ll hope his strong season in Canada convinces some team to give him a shot.

everyone knows that Antonio Brown, aside from proving to have some sort of severe mental problems, is suspended for at least the first 8 games of this season, right?

I’d rather have Brown for 8 games than Chris Hogan and Donte Moncreif for 16

Weird about Hardy. He's the kind of guy any team can use to shore up your WR corps if it's thin... Paul, i can imagine his medicals are probably such that you press "next" on the list.

That's really my only issue with Douglas. He should've doubled at wr especially with this class of wrs.

The Davis,  zuniga , perine,  Morgan picks were off. they could all end up being solid, but u gotta help out your young qb.  One of those should've been a wr, if not 2....

Buffalo got Diggs and still doubled at wr....

God you are ******* tiresome.  They are not looking for a starting receiver for 16 games or even 8.  They are looking for somebody to help out in practice NOW without disrupting anything that might be able to provide a boost if they are lucky.  AB is none of those things.  They just moved Adams to get rid of a distraction.  Teams he might actually put over the top don't want any part of him right now.  Did he even decide on a helmet he can wear yet?.

Didn’t know Gabriel was still available.  He’s actually a semi competent WR.  Give his agent a call

I like Gabriel, but I think he is also primarily a slot.  They are looking for somebody to pick up outside snaps in practice.  He has also had a ton of injuries lately.   Interesting that you like Gabriel, but hate Samuel.

Because Gabriel is actually decent.  He was effective in games with Trubisky throwing to him

They moved Adams to get fair compensation before being forced to give him a $100 million extension he didn’t deserve

Antonio Brown is light years better than these trash heap bums the jets are going to be forced to start.  Yes, start.

Yes he is.  Or he was anyway, but we also know why we aren't sighing him.  Complaining every time that they workout another  wide receiver does nothing but annoy everyone around you.  You want to complain when he signs elsewhere?  Sure, go nuts, make a thread.  You want to complain if/when he makes another catch in the NFL?  Sure, go nuts, make a thread.  You want to spout this twenty times in a thread where they sign a NJ kid to practice or have a former 1st rounder in for a workout?  ******* spare us already.

I'd go to war with Hogan and Berrios before signing Brown. Total cancer everywhere he's been after Pittsburgh.
