We had signed Doctson, Perriman, and drafted Mims. That was two former first rounders and a highly-touted second rounder. James Morgan was a VERY good QB prospect. It never hurts spending draft capital on a good QB prospect. Yeah, people are really going overboard with the JD missed on the WRs thing. I would have liked a 2nd WR in the draft, but would a 4th round rookie really make us feel more secure about our WR position right now? 3 of our projected top 4 guys (Perriman, Mims and V.Smith) are injured, and it's tough for any team in those circumstances - especially with a reduced roster in this year's pre-season. The number of WR injuries we have experienced is remarkable, and you just can't plan for that. Once everyone gets healthy, our top 6 will probably be Perriman, Mims, Crowder, Hogan, Berrios and Moncrief. That group is lacking in top-tier talent, but it's not terrible. Perriman played as well as any WR in football late last season, Mims is a highly rated talent and Crowder is an upper-tier slot. Hogan and Moncrief add veteran depth, and Berrios has shown some flashes from the slot too. Add in a solid TE group and a stable of backs who can catch, and the cupboard isn't as bare as many people believe. 7

We finally have a GM who knows how to wheel and deal and whose pocketbook is as tight as a duck’s azz and won’t overspend or hand out overpriced contracts.....and understands how to build a strong foundation. Playing hardball with the big names on the team, trading them away, signing journeyman and under achievers to prove it deals. Attempt to build through the draft. That sums up both Douglas so far and idziks tenure.

It could be worse, it could be better. Here's a thought, let's wait until after the first quarter of week 1 before making proclamations about the entire season.

greengeek
JD needs to hire every scrub off the street. It is simple math. If you lose one WR per practice to injury it hurts less when they’re all bad.More seriously, at the current injury rate we have to bring in bodies if only to be certain we can even field a complete team on day one. No way you hire Moncrief if the squad is healthy. No way you don’t hire him or another like him in the current circumstances.
