Maher released, Ficken wins Kicking Competition ... for now

We'll see if they bring anyone else in after camp cuts, but it looks like yesterday's MetLife practice sealed it for Ficken

If a decent vet kicker shakes loose I could see them bringing him in. Ficken wasn't terrible but I was hoping we could upgrade the position.

i'm not so keen on ficken.  maybe he can reliably land the kick offs between the goal line and the 5.

Joe D showed how much he values ST by selecting Braden Mann, a punter, in the Draft.  I don't doubt for a second that he has a similar plan to address Kicker next year as he continues to pile up Draft picks.  It wouldn't shock me at all to watch him slide down a few spots in Round 5 to add another 6th round pick and then take the best Kicker in the Draft to have him on a cheap rookie deal.

I think the Jets plan to have Mann handling kickoffs as well as punts.

maybe.  kickers just need to be adequate even though they are in a position to actually lose games.

It's still the dumbest thing I've ever seen to go into last year's camp with only one kicker on the roster. Honestly,  what football team is actually dumb enough to do such a thing?
