Thai Jet
I'd like to think not but it could be. I think it's a "prove it" year for both somewhat but I don't think, IMHO, that either is necessarily on the hot seat. BTW: They'll be no tank job this year.
lounap23
Gase - Yes, Darnold - No They only way Darnold doesn't get another shot is if he somehow implodes this year. 7-6 last year with NO Oline. No running game because of a terrible Oline, terrible play calling and based on execution terrible play design , he still managed to get Ryan Griffin and Robbie Anderson paid. 4

Jethead
Sam has to stay healthy, no excuses, and play like a first rounder this year. If not, JD has a get out of jail free card at the QB position and will probably use it.
Icer
If we are in the position to draft Trevor, then Darnold has regressed severely and isn't the guy we hope he is. This is a non issue unless the bottom falls out this season
JiFtheOracle
If this is the final audition, then Gase and Darnold showed up without their dancing shoes, outfits and music. PCP63
I'm not as high on Darnold as many others here are. Does he have the potential to be a good QB? Yes. But he hasn't been. We can keep making the same excuses that we always make for our struggling QBs (bad OL, bad playcalling, bad WRs), and all of that stuff can be true, but at the end of the day, Darnold still has to produce. The great QBs would still play well even in the worst of situations. 2

kdels62
Yes. Why wouldn’t it be? Darnold apologists will have you believe that Darnold is in no position to succeed but the truth, if he flounders there is no reason to believe. His statistics are pedestrian, his skill set is inconsistent. If he can put it together that’s great if not then you have to move on after this season. The OL will be improved and at full strength his receivers have the ability to get open short or catch 50/50 balls. Personally, I think he’ll have a good season regardless of his weapons but he needs result this year. Good performances even if we lose are important. Putting up points even in losing efforts matter, it’s not a Win/Loss thing it’s a performance thing.
Daddy Wang Doodle
Unless the season really goes south (4-12, 3-13 record), I believe they will get another shot. Popular Post jetscrazey
Running Sam Darnold out of town after a COVID-affected season where the offensive personnel is totally new and has had ZERO time to gel would be pure stupidity. UntouchableCrew
My instinct is that neither is genuinely in danger. For Gase to get fired I think the season needs to go very far south and Darnold would have to really struggle (regress noticeably from last year.) I think management is prepared for this to be a down year and given COVID and the decreased revenue they're okay with it.
Beerfish
These two should not be hooked at the hip at all, in the least. The tragic, jets like thing is that Gase will be the one to stay an Darnold will be the one to go. 2
Popular Post k-met57
if we are gong to pick up young QB's, give them nothing to work with, don't protect them and then dump them 3 years later for not being pro bowlers...i may as well just hand in my fan card now. shawn306
Nah I think this team is going to be ok. Not a playoff team but a team that will contend provided they can actually stay healthy and not lead the league in injuries like they seem to do every year. I am just hoping to see a full season. I am not sold on that yet.
BigRy56
Darnold will likely get another season... but if we find ourselves in the top 5, a quarterback will have to be a strong consideration because if Darnold plays well, this team isn’t picking top 5

It is worse, Luck’s O-line was abysmal much like Sam’s has been, but Luck had better skill position players around him IMO. What QB has been in a worse position to succeed than Sam has the past couple season?

rangerous
this is plenty silly. why would darnold be out save a huge implosion of some kind. he's proven he can lead the team in spite of not having good players around him. carson palmer was in the league for quite some time and wasn't as good. darnold is much better than bortles and he took a team to the afc championship game. as for gase, he's going to go as the team goes. he's safe this season and probably next but he has to demonstrate the team's direction is up. he did a good job last season with some bad personnel and lots of injuries. the fact that they finished strong is an indication that the team was getting used to him as coach and darnold as qb.

shuler82
I think what's more likely is that we have two simultaneous situations going on that traditionally don't go hand in hand. On one hand, we're experiencing the first true off season for Joe Douglas. And make no mistakes about it- this is a gut renovation of an organization. It's why he's valued draft picks, and has avoided the big name splashes in FA. This year is a culture changer, and he's building the roster from nearly scratch. On the other, you have Sam. Going into year 3. Wasting a way on a bottom five roster in the NFL. But here's the thing - if you're top NFL quarterback, you raise the play of those around you. You're the difference maker. You don't need top line players to succeed. Is Darnold that guy? I think the jury's out. But I also think that if this team can get healthy, there's enough talent there that it can't be an excuse for his failures. Perriman/Crowder/Herndon have all flashed in camp. Hogan is an NFL vet. Maybe Mims shows us something.. and with Bell coming out of the backfield, Griffin as our TE2 and an upgrade at OL , it's going to be on Sam to show us he can be the guy. As for Gase - the guy has a longer track record with less results. Year two of his system and hopefully without David Fales under center for 3+ games, and Gase needs to show he can get this offense to be middle of the pack. If the offense still isn't performing, what does he bring to the table?
Lurker89
Probably .... right or wrong. Gase if the season is a trainwreck should go. I'd like to give Darnold a fair shot but the Jets love to throw the baby out with the bath water.
