Dinamite
That's not bad, but I think they short-term IR Flacco and keep an extra healthy WR (Moncrief?).

Popular Post DoubleDown
I can't see them keeping only 5 WR. Perriman and Berrios are currently out. Mims missed significant time and just returned to practice today. I'd like to see Cager, Moncrief, or a yet to be signed cut from another team on the roster for insurance.

Damn, I missed coach uncomfortable in front of a microphone today. Good to hear on the roster maneuvers to keep four qbs given the temptation of all that late night tinder excitement in Morristown.

Yep. Morgan is a lock because he would never make it through waivers, so it comes down to Fales vs. White and I'll leave that decision to the coaching staff and GM. Too many people see a tweet or two and make their decision right then and there which is foolish.

That surprised me as well, but understand keeping extra OL given what happened last season. The 4 RBs seemed unnecessary, but perhaps Cimini is factoring in the possibility Perine won’t be healthy week 1. I still think they need at least 6 WRs at least until Perriman proves he’s healthy and Mims gets caught up.

I would also, but the bigger question will be is who is the better ST player.....our 6th WR or our 4th RB. That is how that decision will be made.

JohnnyLV
10 total DBs. Don't see that. White is earning a backup role. I think they may keep 7 WRs. Only 3 RBs
Aussie Jet
I wonder if Gase is planning to run a lot of two tight end sets, at least until Mims and Perriman get up to speed. Herndon and Griffin, if they replicate past form, would be a good duo for Darnold to work with. 1

Quote QUARTERBACK (4): Sam Darnold, David Fales, James Morgan, Joe Flacco Yeah, seems like we might see some musical chairs. Could Flacco be on short-term IR with Fales and Morgan on the active roster and White on the PS? Might they ditch Fales completely once Flacco is ready since he'd be the guy with "veteran experience"? To me, Fales seems like the guy they're only keeping because Flacco isn't ready. I think they want both Morgan and Mike White here for this year and next to see if they have a viable young backup. The challenge with Morgan and White is that they're both good developmental prospects. I'd have to think Morgan never sees the PS because some team like the Pats would grab him even if they had to put him on the active roster to keep him. I think they'd risk White on the PS. Also....I'm not sure about any of this. lol

Roster is still 53, but you can activate two guys from the PS in any given week to expand the gameday roster to 55 - you have to have 8 OL active on gameday to do that though.
heymangold
4 QBs, 4 RBs and 5 WR? i doubt that is what happens. I'm sure Flacco will end up on the IR (scheduled to return after week 3). It'll come down to White/Fales as the 3, Morgan will be on that protected practice squad thing they put in this year. RB wise i only see them carrying 3. Bell, Gore and Perine. Don't know much about Adams but if he is a special teams ace, maybe he sticks. WR wise i'd imagine them carrying at least 6 - add Cager and even Moncreif. Also I only see 3 TEs being carried with Daniel Brown getting the axe.
Jetlife33
Yeah I don’t see this happening. Only 5 wide receivers would really be concerning. I think it would be at least 6, personally I’d bring 7, although the jets usually don’t break with that many.

IMO, re-signing Daniel Brown was a hedge against Wesco sucking, but it sounds like Wesco has improved enough to hang onto a roster spot, which should in theory allow them to cut both Brown and Josh Adams because Wesco is also their H-back/FB. WR is going to be a revolving door all year, so no way can they only go into the season with five of them on the roster.

This allows more like a way to stash players. Like last year I'd say even though White looks even better now he goes on the PS and likely stays there if no QB injuries since the top 3 after week 2 should be Darnold, Flacco, and Morgan.
ScarletKnight89
Why would we keep 4 Tight Ends and only 5 receivers when our depth at the receiver position is bad. We should at least have quantity at the receiver spot in the hopes someone can step up. The 4 QB thing won't last. Maybe temporarily but once Flacco is healthy they'll go down to 3. Flacco will be on short term IR and can come back after 3 weeks since he likely won't be ready till then. The only issue is if the quarantine a QB it is who, the 2nd or 3rd stringer? It would be a QB with some exp. so I would guess Fales, but that means we go into each of the 1st 2-3 games with Morgan as the backup who likely would struggle if called upon. This is fine, but I suspect they could very safely cut Fales and find him still miraculously there if they needed him in a week or two. Seems like a waste of a roster spot to me. And I was definitely hoping White moved past him. 9 hours ago, DoubleDown said: I can't see them keeping only 5 WR. Perriman and Berrios are currently out. Jets will be very far from done at the WR position after the roster cut downs. Hogan might not be entirely safe depending on who gets released around the league. A ton of WRs drafted this year, many in the first few rounds. Gonna be a lot of guys looking for work soon. Wouldn't shock me if two Jets' opening day WRs were on other teams' rosters today.

mrcoops
There will be some roster juggling early, as guys have to make the initial 53 before they can go on short-term IR. If you IR them before cutting to 53, they are out for the year. So guys like Onwuasor and V.Smith will likely make the initial 53, then be moved to IR so you can bring them back when healthy. And guys like Moncrief may be cut then brought back once the IR moves are made. Something interesting I learned on Twitter today - apparently we can't short-term IR Flacco as his injury wasn't suffered this year. He can't stay on PUTP without being ruled out for 6 weeks. So it looks likely that he will be on the 53, and the Jets will carry 4 QBs (or possibly 3 on the roster, with a 4th being elevated from the PS on gamedays early in the season until Flacco is healthy).
