Why tie up two spots on PS to QB position?

It’s very strange to have 5 QBs on the roster between the 53 and PS.

My initial thought is Fales serves as Darnold backup on the active roster until Flacco returns. Perhaps after that they cut Fales and hang onto White. Next offseason White and Morgan compete for the backup job (assuming Darnold is the uncontested starter)

From what I can tell, you can activate the QB from PS to active roster only one time in a row. If you wanted to do it two weeks in a row you need to sign them for real to the active roster.

Having two QBs on the practice squad let you rotate them without signing them to the active roster and having to pay them as such. You can bring one up one week and one the other, back and forth (hopefully not).

Flacco never should have been signed if it was known he was out for early games.  Fales (or white) should be sent packing if we drafted a QB 4th round.  A few reasonable vet qbs have shaken lose at cut down time.

I agree Flacco isn't and wasn't the answer to the backup QB situation here.

They can add a player from the PS to the gameday roster 2x (each player can be added 2x; they get 2 slots for that each week) during the season. Flacco is due back week 3.  That's your answer

They aren't comfortable with White or Morgan as the backup right now, and if someone must play in a game weeks 1 or 2 they'd prefer it to be Fales. That's why he's on the PSquad - he'll be on the gameday roster (and Flacco won't) weeks 1 and 2.

They prefer White to Fales long-term, or at least think White is worth further development. That's why he's on the PSquad - and I wouldn't be surprised if they cut Fales from the PSquad once Flacco is back

I was not fond of Flacco, but there is no way we would only have our 4th round QB as a backup under normal circumstances. Without the preseason it is def. not going to happen. So, you want to groom Morgan and Flacco isn't ready to start. Look what happened last year when we didn't have any real backups. Once Flacco is gone, I would guess we will loose one or both of them. Again, this just practice squad and the squad is 16 deep.

I get not loving Flacco, but getting all worked up about 2 practice squad slots seems a bit nit-picky to me. It is a crazy year, and we are not likely winning the SB so, I can't get too worked up about this kind of thing.

Have you watched him play the last few years?  He is not good and has zero mobility at all.

He's obviously not what he was. But at least he once was something - unlike those other guys.

Flacco is here to mentor Sam and play in a pinch - he's better than any of those other guys for that dual role.

Take a break, Troll. You don't need a new thread for every random thought you have.

Last time jets carried 4 qbs on the roster worked out so well?

If memory serves, I believe we once carried 2 kickers and 2 punters.  I cannot for the life of me remember who and why, but I suspect one of them was Tupa who was also our emergency QB.  Or maybe I've finally lost my mind...

We definitely had a kickoff specialist at least once, in addition to our regular kicker and punter.

The guy I remember in that role was Don Silvestri, back in the mid 90s.

I think rosters were smaller back then too, and we had a guy just to kickoff once or twice a game.
