jago
"I'm not sure why you try a halfback option pass with a rookie RB on 1st down from the 9 yard line when you are down 3. wow certainly recall the game and the play, but not the down distance and score differential.in retrospect makes it more egregious. ugh. But that's the problem with citing quotes like this; it's incredibly subjective to apply in any meaningful way. And if we go back to the 'potential' interpretation; Shonn Greene flashed his rookie year, and he quickly fizzled out of the NFL. And if we apply the aggression/grit interpretation, seems like Mo Wilk & Sheldon Richardson showed plenty of those two traits... then it felt like, overnight, did not care about the game anymore. Anyways, the season is about start and we'll actually be able to talk about the present instead of the past & future. Go Jets. I don't think any quote can account for the player who's very good, and works for the payday, and then packs it in. Wilkerson and Richardson both could have been perennial stars, IMO, if they cared to be. Frankly, I can't necessarily blame them. Take advantage of the situation and leave with your body and mind fully intact. Hell, Richardson is still playing, and will have earned over 50M at the end of this year. Agreed, trouble is I fear that Quinnen Williams is going to be more like the other Q. Quentin Coples, another total bust. At least we got some good play out of Richardson and Wilkerson. I maybe wrong, but I’ve played this blind hope sh*t to much with the Jets.

At the same time, these things managed to stay somewhat under control prior to his contract. And, there was concerns about him in this regard as a prospect. I never really understood why he was hyped to the degree he was. I'm not a big draft guy, and certainly less and less each year, but his college lines just aren't that impressive when you look at them closely, and he only played two years, and at Alabama.

His test metrics weren't all that impressive either. He avoided the 3-Cone drill for a reason. He was able to demonstrate his elite DT speed last year when he recorded his 2 unblocked sacks, which was nice. But unfortunately, opportunities to run in a straight line are pretty rare for an NFL DT.

Elite player/top pick, nope.

If the incomplete profile gives you pause, or if you want to belabor the fact that he happened to get drafted in the one year that 'not quite Ed Oliver' was an actual knock, okay, but of course it's highly impressive, elite, elite at pick three, or whatever other not completely insane standard you want to use. He hit the ExP number and the measurable improvement from his previous SPARQ testing numbers is either a very good sign or steroids. And if it's steroids he seems to be pretty good at it so. The main concern with Williams is the main concern with everybody. They don't call it life-changing money for no reason. Football is dangerous as **** and he just got options. I'll rephrase: Not all that impressive for a DT you're drafting high and expecting to be a pass rusher at an elite level. If he was a 3rd round pick, of course he'd have impressive test metrics. And he wasn't just "not quite Ed Oliver". He wasn't even in the same ballpark as Ed Oliver.

The main difference between the two of them athletically is the rate at which they physically developed. Oliver was basically the same guy as a high school senior as he is right now. Williams took .4 off his 40 while putting on 40 pounds to play nose tackle. You're right. Oliver's combine numbers were better. Meaningfully so. But you're not just concerned with a snapshot of that week in time.
