Not crazy, but he looked really good to close it out. It could've been worse with having Donte Moncrief and Jehu Chesson as his outside WR's. I just hope that with everyone healthy, there wasn't too much time missed and we don't look completely unorganized. 2) I thought this was common knowledge? Popular Post Beerfish
'scale back offense' is the code word for the Qb getting rid of the moroic peyton manning stand in the pocket pass plays being called for an ad lib throw on the run kind of qb skillset. The very very worst thing this team could do? Go run first. Ground and pound. The VERY worst. It does not shorten games when you are 3rd and 8 half your drives. This team needs to score points, not 30 or 40 but enough where you have a chance to win. We do not have the 85 bears defense.

I thought it had more to do with the OL sucking and the wrs injured and not being able to use most of the plays in the playbook.

Running consistently on first and second is the surest way to screw over your team and have you score less points. No team is successful, like you said on 3rd and 8. The reality is that "ground and pound" really means 2 things. Ability to run the ball in short yardage and goal line AND the ability to put away games by running effectively LATE in games. To set that up though you have to be balanced to slightly pass focused early in games.

Adoni Beast
- From the reports all camp I sort of got the feeling that Darnold was having real meh practices. - I’m glad that Gase’s offense is so complicated but doesn’t do anyone any good if it can’t be comprehended. Hopefully Sam starts to. - Our WR’s are atrocious and not ready. - Starting to get the vibe that Gase may outlast Darnold here....especially with these “nuggets” about scaling back the playbook, meh camp, Gase’s tough system. Laying the groundwork for a smear campaign if Darnold doesn’t step it up?...

Laying the groundwork for a smear campaign if Darnold doesn’t step it up?... Gase did basically bring Douglas here so its possible Gase is "safer" than Darnold in some ways. But if Gase can't make it work with Darnold then exactly how much confidence should Douglas have in the guy? I have to think that if Darnold fails, then Douglas would move on from both Darnold and Gase simultaneously. But you never know. The only one that is safe for a good while is Douglas, the man with the 6-year contract.

The only one that is safe for a good while is Douglas, the man with the 6-year contract. To be clear Douglas doesn’t have the power to fire Gase under this current structure. That decision is up to Christopher Johnson, and keep in mind Woody is a huge variable here as he could potentially regain control of the team. Christopher Johnson hired Adam Gase in large part to develop Sam Darnold. I just can’t imagine a scenario where the owner would approve of keeping Gase and dumping Sam without some semblance of team success. The only exception would be if Darnold suffers a season-ending injury early in the season and Gase overachieves with a resurgent Joe Flacco. Put yourself in CJs shoes: You (Gase) were hired to: 1) Win football games 2) Develop the young QB This is not a Matt Nagy situation where he got (1) good season out Trubisky and won 12 games that year. Gase is a coach who is now on the precipice of missing the postseason four consecutive years. How many coaches miss the playoffs four years in a row and still have a job? And Woody? The guy has always had a history of reading the fan base and making decisions based off of that. Gase was an incredibly unpopular hire and the fan base will categorically approve his dismissal. 2

There’s nothing wrong in finding the underneath option when the defense is giving it up, but to not hit that guy quickly enough is to give up YAC. The kid quarterback has to do a better job of firing underneath completions quicker. It’s tough to fully get all over Darnold under these circumstances, but it would also be unwise to give him a free pass. His progression reading must be crisper and executed much quicker, regardless of the personnel. It’s up to him to lift this offense when it needs a boost. https://jetsxfactor.com/2020/09/01/new-york-jets-practice-notes-sam-darnolds-plight-crowder-berrios-herndon-exit-early/

varjet
My objective and honest predictions are: Jets win less than 8 games in 2020 Défense is worse than last year Bell has a good year and is still released. Darnold plays out his rookie contract and is franchised either before trade or extension. The Jets will not actually extend him early. Gase returns in 2021 and is then fired. Quinnen is not given the fifth year option
