You can't fix 10 bad years in 1 year

Recommended Posts

In all seriousness, we should be viewing the Jets as an expansion team in its second season. That is how bad the previous 10 years have been.

Cam Newton humiliated Jamal Adams last time he saw him. Absolutely sonned him. sh*t was humiliating.

TS your critiques of Adams center around the idea he peaked at 21

the guy gets better every week

he's not 27 like marcus maye

there is a slogan on wall st or a disclaimer 'past performance doesn't guarantee future results'

i stand by my prediction, Jamal Adams is going to shut down the Patriots Tebow style offense and spy Cam all game

by the way the Seahawks let Adams pass rush 24 times last week

That's where we are! Name one draft pick starter who other teams fans can name? We don't have a TJ Watt, in fact we don't have a handful of players starting in this league that were available to us over the last 9 years. Right now everyone knows Sam Darnold for all the wrong reasons. Most fans outside of NY think of him as a bust, as are many Jet fans. Starting in 2015 we were all excited that the Redskins took Brandon Scherff & we were the benefiaries of having Leonard Williams drop in our laps. Well, Scherff is still in Washington & we know how it turned out for Williams here. In 2016 Chris Jones went 37th. We picked Darron Lee at #20.

In 2017 we didn't even have a QB & we picked a safety at #6. A very good SAFETY mind you, but still a safety with Christian McCaffery, Deshaun Watson, Marshon Lattimore & Patrick Mahomes all going right after that choice.

Then to get Darnold we had to trade away a boatload of picks. Then 2018 season we win one more game where our RB stumbles & trips into the endzone for a win that means nothing in Buffalo & instead of having stud pass rusher Nick Bosa we end up with Leonard Williams Part II in QW. The jury is still out but it's again not a promising pick to be a future HOFer.

And here we are. 10 years later after our last great playoff win on the road in New England. It's all about the next 3 years really. Joe Douglas had 1 draft, so far its successful if only Becton becomes a stud (that's better than the last 9 drafts combined). We haven't been able to see Mims, Zuniga, Perine or Clark but Davis looks the part as a contributor.

The Oline looks to be improved, tough sledding starting out facing a top 3 defense. But we all know the holes that need to be filled at CB, (Bless looked awesome by the way, that's great news), Edge Rusher, (We still haven't seen Zuniga or Huff), and we all know we're razor thin at WR right now. Those will be the next emphasis by Joe Douglas. He really was left a smoldering dumpster fire 🔥 and leaping off ledges every week isnt the answer for fans. This season is just another year to find a few more guys to trudge forward with into 2021 & 2022 where we have to put our faith in JD & his scouts to have another great draft & fruitful free agent finds that instead of being mercenaries collecting retirement checks are actually part of our success & proud to be New York Jets.

Everything rides on Joe Douglas. I'm just happy he has 6 years because he's going to need them & we need stability at least in the GM & scouting departments even if their is a coaching change at some point. Looking forward to some these guys getting healthy so we can see what we've got. They're all getting a lot of time when we're already looking at next year.

False

In the nfl unlike other sports you can go worst to first thanks to coaching and game plan.

It would be more accurate to say we can not fix everything in one year due to an inability to coach and game plan.

Because the first step is to stop digging. You think you're gonna be able to tell Robby Anderson **** once you give him 30 million dollars guaranteed? This has to stop being a semiretirement destination and Anderson is just the most obvious of the wrong kinds of guys.

Robby Anderson got 2 years 20 mil

Perriman got like 1 year 8 mil

he did not get all the big money everyone thought he did

the Jets could have easily afforded both

But Becton wasn't the "no brainer" OT to take there.  Tons of people wanted Wirfs, and were pissed when Becton was the pick.  Some even wanted Douglas to trade up for Andrew Thomas.  JD took the higher ceiling, higher risk guy there and its paying off well already.

Meanwhile, Macc would have probably taken Jerry Jeudy.

Not a chance......Javon Kinlaw would have been the pick. Macc would look at it as getting his Ernie Holmes to pair with Mean Joe(Q). The new Steel Curtain.😄

You cannot fix everything in one off-season.

But you absolutely should make material incremental improvements each off-season.

We haven't.

This.

Or, if you want to level expectations even more: you can stop actively making the team worse each year, thereby not extending it to 11years.

Or, even better, shower it all in gasoline and throw it into a volcano.

What a ridiculous statement.

Anderson literally took a shorter deal so that he could prove himself and get paid more later. That is the opposite of what a guy who's looking to get paid and coast would do.

What is so obviously wrong about him exactly? Guy was one of the few who regularly showed up to play on our garbage teams.

54 % catch rate.  Didn't fight for many 50/50 balls.

He's fine as a WR2/WR3 type.  Not as a WR1.  Joe Douglas offered him as much or more than the Panthers did.  He turned it down and went to play for his old Temple coach.  The tears shed over the guy are excessive.

Now we know why Matt Ryan put up 450 clean passing yards last week and someone named “Russell Gage” was one of three Falcons receivers to go over 100 in that game.

in case you weren't aware, the Seahawks travelled 3000 miles for a 1p start and owned the Falcons all game

they are SB contenders this season, a top 5 team in football

I don't know that they will win it or even get there but Adams probably put them over the top for an NFC Champ appearance as a floor

the Jets look about as good as the inside of a porta John

but yeah let's keep pretending like trading the best Jets player since Revis for draft picks was such a hot ass move

Giving up that many passing yards is what will keep them from winning it all. But boy can Jamal rush the passer and tackle.

They’ve literally been “Super Bowl contenders” since Russell Wilson put on a Seahawks uniform. If Jamal Adams got paid and was a Jet, we still get rolled by Buffalo last week because Marcus Maye put up a better statistical performance in one start than Jamal ever produced as an NFL player

Everyone knows what Robby is. He's not a guy you throw it to into traffic and hope for the best, although Sam would occasionally do this anyways.

He's legit one of the best deep threats in the league. Again you seen it on Sunday - When he beats his guy he beats him well and leaves them in the dust. A rare ability in the NFL against elite athletes. He's as good a #2 as you would want and a valuable asset on any team. No one plays a team with Robby Anderson without paying him serious attention.

Not that any of this is relevant - The post I was responding too was accusing him of being a quitter or that he's just looking to get paid - Despite all evidence to the contrary.

Based on 1 game?

No, in general.  My post was not specific to a GM or moment, it was a general observation of the past decade or so.

1 hour ago, Jetster said:

Becton is already a huge improvement. Chosen as rookie of the week vs a top 3 defense.

And the rest of the O-line, admittedly through one game only, has played worse.

We haven’t seen 4 draft picks due to injury.

Which means they're not improving our team at current.

1 hour ago, Jetster said:

Davis looks like he can play.

You base that on.....what, exactly?  His hurdle-near-fumble?

1 hour ago, Jetster said:

You can’t put anything in the past on JD, even Adams (he didn’t pick him & he wanted out).

Yes, we can.  If you choose to accept a job here, you also choose to accept the history of here, and (as GM) your job is to overcome that history and make improvements.  He did not make those old choices, but it IS his job to move forward after them and to fix them now.  It's HIS team now.

I was (and am) supporting of JD's moves so far, but the result on the field (on on the IR) has not been good as yet.  Early still, we'll see.

1 hour ago, Jetster said:

You guys can’t blame him for the sins of others & you can’t judge anything he’s done until the end of this season.

As noted above, it's his team now, and he is responsible for it.  "It was the last guys fault" is not a valid excuse for an NFL GM a year later.

And yes, we can (and will) judge every week.  There is no "must wait till end of year" requirement on evaluation, on the contrary, evaluation should always be constant and ongoing.

1 hour ago, Jetster said:

Even his mistakes like Khalil were 1 year no impact on the cap deals.

That decision certainly had impact on the field and on wins and losses.

There's something obviously wrong with anybody who's worth 8 figures and tries hard at football. Earbanging Mrs. Krupke? I'm into it. Surfer quarterbacks? Bruh. Walking memes with braces burping into microphones and talking about playing with themselves? Good luck on the plural but other than that I'm sold.

It's a lovable bunch but you can't win with these people. The Jets need churchy types and dudes with ant problems.

good points.  i'm sure other fans will be mentioning becton in short order.  the scope of the damage done by 10 years of stupid drafting is just now being reversed.  i guess we can argue that mac drafted some decent players on his way out but just where were they for the previous 5 seasons and before that for idzik and tanny.  and while we think douglas will turn things around consider that zuniga, mims, and perrine have yet to see the field so it's hard to see how things are actually looking better.

just wait until everyone sees what Jamal Adams does to Cam Newton on SNF

Gotta save that cap to roll over. For the Jets, the future is always a season away.
