You can't fix 10 bad years in 1 year

That's where we are! Name one draft pick starter who other teams fans can name? We don't have a TJ Watt, in fact we don't have a handful of players starting in this league that were available to us over the last 9 years. Right now everyone knows Sam Darnold for all the wrong reasons. Most fans outside of NY think of him as a bust, as are many Jet fans. Starting in 2015 we were all excited that the Redskins took Brandon Scherff & we were the benefiaries of having Leonard Williams drop in our laps. Well, Scherff is still in Washington & we know how it turned out for Williams here. In 2016 Chris Jones went 37th. We picked Darron Lee at #20.

In 2017 we didn't even have a QB & we picked a safety at #6. A very good SAFETY mind you, but still a safety with Christian McCaffery, Deshaun Watson, Marshon Lattimore & Patrick Mahomes all going right after that choice.

Then to get Darnold we had to trade away a boatload of picks. Then 2018 season we win one more game where our RB stumbles & trips into the endzone for a win that means nothing in Buffalo & instead of having stud pass rusher Nick Bosa we end up with Leonard Williams Part II in QW. The jury is still out but it's again not a promising pick to be a future HOFer.

And here we are. 10 years later after our last great playoff win on the road in New England. It's all about the next 3 years really. Joe Douglas had 1 draft, so far its successful if only Becton becomes a stud (that's better than the last 9 drafts combined). We haven't been able to see Mims, Zuniga, Perine or Clark but Davis looks the part as a contributor.

The Oline looks to be improved, tough sledding starting out facing a top 3 defense. But we all know the holes that need to be filled at CB, (Bless looked awesome by the way, that's great news), Edge Rusher, (We still haven't seen Zuniga or Huff), and we all know we're razor thin at WR right now. Those will be the next emphasis by Joe Douglas. He really was left a smoldering dumpster fire 🔥 and leaping off ledges every week isnt the answer for fans. This season is just another year to find a few more guys to trudge forward with into 2021 & 2022 where we have to put our faith in JD & his scouts to have another great draft & fruitful free agent finds that instead of being mercenaries collecting retirement checks are actually part of our success & proud to be New York Jets.

Everything rides on Joe Douglas. I'm just happy he has 6 years because he's going to need them & we need stability at least in the GM & scouting departments even if their is a coaching change at some point. Looking forward to some these guys getting healthy so we can see what we've got. They're all getting a lot of time when we're already looking at next year.

I hear this a lot from fans of this team.  C'mon people, have some backbone and demand more from this NY franchise.  NY franchises used to have unrelenting fan bases than expected excellence from their team.  If not, bags on heads.

Nowadays, we all justify how crappy we've been by saying we can't fix what was broken in xxx years.  Give me a break.

Get the right guy in here and you'll see how much better we play.  This guy is a joke...and we all know it.  Except CJ.

What is it, the chicken or the egg? No one is disputing the utter failure of the last 10 years but some of you want to go back to the 2015 Jets & have 1 year of OK success. JD has been here 1 year & for 1 draft. He's saddled with Le'veon Bell until next year. We have 2 decent starters in 10 years of drafting (Darnold & Maye), we still have no idea what we have in Herndon. Bless may be a player? We still have so many question marks because of youth & injury. Thats what the next 15 games will be for. You guys are going crazy after 1 game & we have never seen a full compliment of players available ever in 1 year & 1 game so far. I seen many games played in the NFL where teams are outplayed & win. It was 21-10 when Herndon fumbled (another Jet screwing) but whatever.

We played bad, get over it. Tell me what you think after the season not after 1 game. Ridiculous.

Won't take that long if Douglas nails a lot of his picks.  For all the hand-wringing over the injuries, this was a very unusual offseason to say the least.  There are rookie injuries all across the league.

Once we get this draft class healthy and then stack up another draft class or 2 we can truly evaluate the future of the franchise.  That process is delayed at the moment.  Tough sh*t, life isn't fair.

First you need to fire Gase.

Read about half the post until the usual fluff started about improved OL etc.

We were always razor thin at WR. JD let go of a half decent WR in Robby and picked up a jag to replace him. Then he has the often injured Crowder and a few nobodies after that. He drafted just 1 WR (Mims) in a heavily loaded WR draft class instead of double downing. Even if Mims miraculously becomes our #1 this year, we still don’t have a #2. All the salary cap and the off season WR moves (Hopkins, Diggs, Cooks, Cobb, Sanders etc) and we shopped in the clearance isle (Perriman).

Landry, Beckham, Chubbs, KHunt ...

Diggs, John Brown, Singletary ...

That’s what you provide your franchise QB. Not the scrubs we have. Sitting on massive salary cap, you trade the only Jets player known around the league AFTER Mosley’s gazillions came off the books. Good trade, if you can pick the right guy, which I have zero faith in the Jets. So many other points on JD, who is following the exact same footsteps of Izdik, it is incredible. We are the worst team in the NFL. We weren’t the worst when JD took over. I understand it takes time but we aren’t headed in the right direction. Time factor is secondary, direction is the primary concern.

This is not a rinse & repeat rebuild. Your wrong about that. Idzik started a rebuild that never materialized because he's an accountant not a GM & he missed on 14 draft picks. Now you bring in Maccagnan & he's even worse, not only does he miss on draft picks, he targets positions on in the draft that don't warrant that kind of draft capital. Our 1st round picks were DT, LB, S, DT, then we had to BUY the 3rd pick for 3 second rounders.

Plus Maccagnan bought 3 free agents, all at extremely high prices in Trumaine Johnson, CJ Mosely & Le'veon Bell and they provided zero to the team overall & now after receiving a 10 million dollar bonus Mosely opts out on the team! Sorry, that is NOT rebuilding & you all know it so stop saying, "we're always rebuilding" when the truth is we have never rebuilt the Jets with smart drafting & thoughtful free agent purchases. It has always been BIG NAME, back page ,no return Free Agency for the NY Jets.

In Douglas 1st year, he didn't bring in any big name free agents, concentrated on the Oline to start & brought in Fant, McGovern & Van Rotten. Then, he drafted Becton. That's a great start, sorry you don't think so. He drafted Mims who unfortunately is hurt, they expected V Smith to develop & got hurt. He drafted a RB that should be back from injury.

You can't fault the guy for bad luck. We know nothing about this draft class outside of Becton but if he solved our LT issue for 10 years he's already done more than Idzik & Macc did in 10 years combined.

You guys are putting 50 years on a guy that's been here for 1 year, instead of sucking it up, stepping back off the off the ledge & let JDs first season play out or how about 4 freaking games! We're not winning the Super Bowl this year, it's about finding a few more youngsters to add to the team & continue into 2021 with 5 picks probably in the 75.

Plus there are at least 10 teams teetering over the cap & free agency will have a better pool with a lot less competition. Joe Douglas looks to actually have a plan. Idzik & Macc both accomplished nothing. So no, this isn't the same old rebuild because this organization has NEVER truly rebuilt this team the right way. JD starting with the Oline is already encouraging for me.

It's not an excuse Phil.  You can only do so much in one season.  And it usually takes 2-3 seasons to see how well a draft class comes together.  It would REALLY help if we actually had a coach who could call games.  In about two years if this draft class and the next two all don't pan out (like Mac's draft classes), then it will be time to start hunting for the 5th GM in a decade and a half.

I think you are confusing excuses and truth.  Did you think we were going to be the Kansas City Chiefs?

Dougals has had, as its been pointing out AD NAUSEM on here, one off-season, and you can't judge that after one game.  Sam Darnold is starting to look broken, and can you blame him, the crap head coaches he has been given?

If the Jets start 0-5, my guess is Gase will be gone, another HUGE mistake from the get-go.  If Joe Douglas really has the keys to the Ferrari, he will get to pick his coach.  That will be where things will be able to turn around.  Tom Brady could have came here with Gronk and we signed OBJ and this offense under the watchful eye of Adam Gase would crap its own bed.

It's more complex than just having good offseasons. The Jets rotate GM's and HC's and nothing really changes. Pinning your hopes on Douglas just drafting better and the Jet becoming a non joke franchise requires a lot more than some good drafts. The Johnson's are cheap. Nothing the Jets do is remotely innovative.

Well, the obvious choice is to stop caring about the team then until they are sold by the Johnsons.

Again, IF Chris has given Joe Douglas the keys to the Ferrari, then a new coach will come.  The most successful franchises have a 'hands-off' approach, unless you are Jerry Jones (and that is debateable).  Time will tell.

The big paydays seems to do that to fellas.  You have any number stats on how many players get hurt or drop off after they get signed for the big bucks?

Plus he arrived to Cleveland with knee issues.  Which was likely a big reason Tennessee didn't give him a 5th year option or re-sign him in the first place.  Granted, he's dealing with an ankle issue now, not knee issues, but still.  He might just be a fragile guy.  Tennessee had a lot of opportunities to bring Conklin back, but after being a big part of Derrick Henry's big season, they still said no thanks.

Teams let "good players" go for a reason.  They see these guys day in and day out, and have to weigh the risks before handing them paydays.  The overwhelming majority of the time, the teams that let the players go are the ones that get it right.

That's why you have to pick and choose very carefully when you're going big game hunting in free agency.  The Macc track record in free agency should have clued us in to that.

Yes this is all JD's fault.  Has nothing to do with 5 straight awful drafts/offseasons by his predecessor.

The guy played injured, he hasn't quit on the team or his career.  You really can't look at one half of football and tell me this was a bad signing - or more precisely would have been a bad signing for the Jets.

If there is anything the Jets do consistently it's chopping off heads. We're literally 1 1/2 years from heads rolling and we want more. Its simply harder not to give up.  Let's put the hatchet down for a while and see where it goes in game 2.  JD has a plan and it's clear to see. Now, if he could only learn that the Jets are cursed and try to account for that we will REEEEALLY have something ;-)

Oh, and I DESPISE gase

My plan is to let the season play out.

Enjoy the wins.

Laugh at the losses and chuckle at the reactions here on Monday.

Hope Sam plays well .. . Knowing he probably is what he is at this point.

Watch the rooks carefully.

I'm pulling for Gase ... But just don't see any shred of evidence that he can be a good head coach.

That's about it.

Oh yeah and... Drink a lot of whiskey

I think JD has done a great job so far ... But either our strength and conditioning team is the worst on the planet ... Or the rooks just aren't ready to play yet

He's already won picking Becton so now Mims, Davis, Zuniga, Perine, Clark will be fun to watch when they get healthy. If he hits on 3 guys total it will be our best draft since Dbrick/Mangold.
