Would have no problem tanking for Lawrence

Just ridiculous to even entertain the idea of drafting Lawrence. This team has way to many needs besides drafting a rookie QB.  Ain’t happening. JD spent a 4th on Morgan. He’d see if Morgan developed before moving on from Sam. I trust JD will strengthen this team through the draft and FA in the next 2 years. If Gase falls flat on his face, then he’ll get the right coach as well. This is not going to be an instant pancake mix solution. This year is rough. The injuries, the lack of time playing together, the lack of overall talent, the lack of cohesiveness on the OL, the crummy coaching. Patience boys and girls. Patience.

If the Jets picked #1 & took Trevor, then turned around & put Darnold on the market for a #1 from any NFC team interested there would be a taker. Look at the age of these NFC QBs, Brees, Stafford, Brady, Cousins, maybe we pull a Belichick & say f*ck it & trade him to (AFC) Indy for a haul because of our guys familiarity with the Colts brass.
That would be 1 bold azz move I’ll tell you that!
Jets could have 3 firsts including 1 overall!
And a sh*t ton of cap space with 2 firsts in 2022 to come!
They could be trotting out a WR core of Mims, Juju, Crowder, another #1 or #2 WR pick.
Be a fun 5 years to watch!

YES. Leave poor pretty Trevor alone!

These human joystick QB’s are great and entertaining for awhile until they get CLOBBERED.  See RGIII. Murray, Jackson and even Allen are going to get clocked sooner or later running around and will never be the same. Sam stays in the pocket or rolls out and is selective when he runs. Burrow is similar. He is a pocket passer and not in the mold of these Mexican jumping bean QB’s. These guys just never have a long shelf life in the NFL. Even Vick, who was the best of these, had limited success. Trevor falls into this category. He runs way to much. No thank you. Stick with Sam. Keep improving the OL and WR positions.  Go play video games if you want a Bobby Douglas clone.

Let Trevor go to a team that has a clue. Maybe Sam bounces back, probably not.

Ever since Goodell & his minions looked into the future of the NFL & saw that concussions could kill the golden goose, every single new rule has been put into place to keep the QB safe.
Alex Smith got older & had a fluke injury. Jackson uses the sideline & sliding like a pro already, just like Russell Wilson before him.
In the pocket, you can’t go high, you can’t go low. Outside the pocket you can throw it away, slide, and unlike the old days the defense can’t spear, hit anywhere near the head ect.

So far this year the Fans having the most fun are Ravens, Chiefs, Cardinals, because their QBs are fun to watch. Rogers is still very good but getting older.
A ton of these guys are on their last legs, Big Ben, Rivers, Brady, Brees. Lawrence or Fields would be more exciting than Darnold.
Jets have been so boring for so long! Even the 2010 offense sputtered a lot.
last exciting year on offense was 2008 with Favre the 1st 3/4 of the season. That’s 12 freaking years ago! Like Kindergarten to being a senior for God sakes.

If Sam leads us to the number one pick and you could still get a first rounder for him, you should be hired immediately as GM.

Just go back & look at what teams will do to find QBs. This isn’t all about Sams abilities, it’s also the fact we might have a chance for someone BETTER & another 5 year rookie contract.
You do realize that Ryan Fitzpatrick & Phillip Rivers are still starting QBs in this league right?

I agree, if we're doing this,

FLOP FOR FIELDS!!!!!!!!

Hell, if you want Fields we could probably trade back & get him + trade Darnold.
Jets could have a 3 first round, 3 seconds, 3 third round draft ?
We would definitely have to build a Joe Douglas statue.

1 - Trevor Lawrence is vastly overrated on these forums.  Off his performance in the nat champ game last year we can call him Quinnen Lawrence.

2 - With this roster and with the same coach he will not be one ounce better than Darnold.

Any talk of getting the next QB early in the draft is foolish until we upgrade the team talent and get rid of a terrible coach.

Can you at least let us have this one thing!?

It's only been 1 game, yet it already feels like last seasons halfway point when we got beat by the Fitzpatrick led Dolphins and were 1-7.

Couldn’t have it better myself, and it’s because Gase’s offense looked slow, confused, and lifeless just like last year.

Sam looked jittery and lost just like last year.

not buying it. when you know you're pretty much going to be the 1st overall pick, you know you're going to a team that wasn't very good

Yup.  Especially when you consider that Joe Burrow signed a $36 million fully guaranteed contract.  Is Lawrence as the presumptive number 1 pick going to risk that kind of money to go back to school.  Yes, he can buy insurance against major injury, but it is not going to pay anywhere near $36 mil.

They say that the best thing about banging your head against the wall is that when you stop, it feels great

Drafting a QB and throwing him onto a bad team is not a formula for future success. I think that the Jets have been proving that for a number of drafts. Do you really think Mahomes and Jackson, as successful as they are would have the same results on bad teams?

The Jets need to build the core, namely the O-line and D-line/edge/LB's. Let them jell as units while bringing in skill players.  Until such time, any QB is  waste of a pick.

It will feel great when they stop banging their heads against this particular wall.

Yup.  Pretty much where I am at too.  If I had to make a decision today, I would rather have Fields than Lawrence.  Seems like mobile QBs fit today's NFL better and tramsition to the NFL more easily than traditional drop back QBs.

Here’s the difference too. For Sam, the Jets had to dismantle the team & give up 3 second round picks. If the Jets had the #1 overall they could trade back for Fields or take Trevor plus trade Darnold & already have a close to rebuilt Oline, a bunch of money & a sh*tload of high draft picks.
Apples & Oanges compared to 2018.

Sam Darnold’s mother would try to negotiate you to a 3rd rounder

I do think there are plenty of NFC teams that would fight to trade for him.
Nothing wrong with losing out to Trevor or Fields because a team doesn’t want to pay you & has the opportunity to get another top college QB for 5 years under a rookie contract.

I agree. Especially if Becton is as good as he looked week 1, would seem to be a selling point to a rookie QB that you have a young stud LT to protect your blind sid efor the next decade.  Then, if Mims can come in and contribute over the last 2-3 months of the season, the cupboard may not be quite as bare is it appeared on Sunday.

Not disputing their would be a demand. Disputing the perceived value.

But it is the right way to do things.

When did a rookie jets Qb have some success?  Mark Sanchez when the team was very solid and he could come in and not have to carry the load.

Look at a guy like Dak prescott, not an A plus player if you ask me, he walks into Dallas and they have an all pro oline and a great back.

Even mahommes, great player and would be good anywhere but with andy reid and weapons all over the roster he is terrific.

Tossing another rookie onto this team now will fail.

There will always be the next trevor lawrence two years from now.
