C.J. Mosley to visit the Jets Today

The Jets have worked under a cloak of secrecy for years. Who could have known they would pick players such as Bryan Thomas in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft.

The scene at Madison Square Garden is often the same when panning the audience during the Jets first day picks

Terry will replace Fergie with someone in this draft. Thanks to DraftDaddy.com  and the input of Bit, Riggs, Ham and others, my eyes have opened regarding this draft.

It is a very good one. At first, some, if not many, said it was a poor draft. Look closer. We have a chance to draft a stud, blue chip corner at #26, and their some solid players on both lines. No one spectacular stands out. There are no Dewayne Robertsons or Robert Gallerys, but there are plenty of players who can help make this team much stronger.

This draft is strong to me. Bradway can't mess this one up. Then again.... #-o

I could see us taking either Mosley or Hawthrone at 26. Infact, if one of the 3 B OT's arn't out there, I would really like this to happen. Even if the OT's are out there there are enough that one could be taken with the 2nd round pick to compete with Adrian Jones or a possibility of a June 1st cap cut.

YEAH!!!!

A Current Jets related thread. YES...FINALLY!

The Jets are in the market for an OT,TE, DB and DT.

Of the players and positions available at 26. We have the best chance at DT of taking our best rated player at that position.

C.J. sounds like he has alot of upside. I don't like junior DT's coming out. They usually take 2 or 3 years to develop fully.

Doesn't anyone like Lance Legree? DL coach Denny Marcin must have had input in the signing knowing him from his Giants days. I think the DL is competitive enough with Ellis, Robertson, Evans, Abraham, Thomas and Legree.

Whoever they take I hope he makes an impact at a position that needs it - like Vilma & Coleman as rookies as opposed to LaMont Jordan, Santana Moss, Dewayne Robertson and Bryan Thomas...

I like Legree as a swingman. He serves a few different roles. He can play all 4 DL positions and even line up at DE in the 3-4.

It's good to have a young player who is a great effort player with versatility. That's why The Jets signed him. Obviously, Marcin wanted him.

The Legree and Gardner signing were depth moves. Gardner can play inside and outside and is great on special teams.

You maximize your roster when you have backups who serve a bunch of different roles well. It's very smart to do that.

IMO there is not a DT worthy of the 26th overall pick in this entire class ... including Shaun "tweener" Cody

I strongly believe that any DT in this class would be a profound reach at 26, and I would strongly caution the Jets against making that mistake

There is not a DT in this class who would even crack the TOP 5 of DT's in any one of the past five drafts ... maybe not even the TOP 6, 7, or 8

bit....

antaaj hawthorne or CJ Mosley at 26?

Well you didn't ask me but I'll weigh-in on this

I can already say, RIGHT NOW, without hesitation, and without even seeing the first 25 players who go off the board, that the Jets will be leaving players {plural} on the board who carry a much higher grade if they tab any DT in this draft at that spot, including the two you just mentioned

Everytime the NY media puts out an article on a "sleeper" the jets somehow end up with him. I remmember reading an article on strait last year before the draft, what happned, Jets got him... I wouldn't be surprised if Bradway Picks up the paper and thats how he decides who to draft.

I agree with Ham. This years DT class is not very strong.

Problem with the strength in this years draft is so that many juniors came out too early last year and would have been drafted higher in this years draft. Like say, Randy Starks, P.K. Sam etc etc etc

C.J. if he went back to school. Could have been a top 15 pick next season.

I already started a thread here where I listed the possibilities of the top CB's and OT's being gone at 26 and How The Jets should trade down and accumulate picks in rounds 2, 3 and 4.

Okay, if you placed a loaded pistol to my head and forced me to select a DT at 26, which one would I select?

MIKE PATTERSON

But that's only if you put a loaded pistol to my head, because his upside is Warren Sapp

BTW, if Patterson was a bigger guy he would be a TOP 10 Pick ... he's that good

Still wouldn't take him at 26 ... too small ... just pointing out why he's the DT I would take at 26 if my life was on the line

Like I said, his upside is Warren Sapp

most likely they are looking at DT for 57 not 26 -

remember tho Randy Starks was a guy we had rated in the top 20 on our DD.com site - then he falls to the 3rd round - then he has a great year and proves us right - this is how it will go with CJ - he won't get drafted anywhere near wherever I have him on the big board but time will prove that he should have been.

Mike Patterson is a great player but his upside is more along the lines of a booger mcfarland - he's not a 3tech penetrator like sapp - he'e more of a gritty NT that clogs gaps and occupies blockers - would be a real fit for the NYJ by the way cause they need a guy just like that -

Bit, Straks would be my highest rated DT if he was in this draft

Which really speaks to this DT class ... as you correctly pointed out, Starks was a 3rd RD Pick last year, yet he would carry the highest DT Grade on my board this year

And that's not in hindsight ... that knowing what I knew about Starks when he entered the draft

I loved randy starks coming out last year, on tgg.com I kept arguing with him being the best DT in the draft, everybody called me ignorant and that wilfork was far better. well Starks had a great year and wilfat is somewhere keeled over in dunkin donuts right now

I still do not understand why he dropped to the 3rd round?

Mosely, Johnson and Hawthorne are the three best physical talents at DT in the draft.

Johnson is a headache. Doesn't play to his ability.

Patterson is the best effort player of the DT's.

Anthony Bryant has alot of upside. He needs proper coaching. He has the tools. He can be the big beefy DT who clogs the middle.

I can't remember any huge DT that has ever come out that didn't carry the label of "lazy." IMO, I'd take a flyer on Bryant and hope he becomes Sam Adams.

Even though it is not the most important trait for a tackle but Bryant's time at Alabama's pro day in the 40's for 330 pound guy were impressive -right around 5.0

I agree. Look at all the best DT's in The NFL. Alot of them were mid round picks. I would seriously consider drafting Bryant in the 3rd or 4th round. Sam Adams is actually a pretty good comparison TS.

DT's are so hard to judge. You really have to sit down and watch film. They don't get great stat totals. So you can't just judge them by that and alot of their success is based on who is around them.

A good dt can get lost easy. Especially the players who are not pass rushing specialists.
