JD has no idea what he’s doing

Douglas knows exactly what he's doing. He's a secret genius. He knew that he had to get rid of Gase, who was responsible for getting him hired and the favored son of Chris Johnson so he knew the Jets would have to so bad that there would be no choice, but for Chris to fire Gase all the while giving Douglas the number 1 pick for him to pick a QB for the HC he actually wants.

Secret. Genius. 4d Chess. Douglas has sunk Chris Johnson's battleship.

Kevin is the type of football fan who likes to pretend he is a die hard football fan because he somehow ended up with season ticket, but he gets all of his football opinions from the likes of Mike Greenberg, Joe Beningo, and the rest of the media ilk.  He’ll swear to you up and down that Jamal Adams is some transcendent talent that could never be replaced, but when you or any other knowledgeable football fan (the real die hards) point out that he’s liability in coverage, is going to cost 18-20 million dollars per year, and is not a long-term fit for a team with as many holes as the Jets, Kevin will say “So what, he went to the Pro Bowl!!!!1!!1!” and something like “You don’t trade Pro Bowlers” despite the Pro Bowl being an absolute joke ever since it was created.  He’s the type of fan who loved Maccagnan signing Le’Veon Bell, CJ Mosley, Matt Forte, Trumaine Johnson, etc. because it gave him enough of a serotonin boost in the middle of spring, when there’s nothing going on in the sporting world.  To him, not blowing every penny of a free agency war chest is a failure, because now Kevin can’t walk into Vinny Stubanoli’s basement on poker night and tell him how many “supahstahs” the Jets loaded up on in their off-season and that this year is “the year”.  He doesn’t have the patience for a real rebuild and what it entails.  He has no clue how important the draft is compared to free agency because it takes longer to see the returns of a single draft class (typically 3 or more years) and he doesn’t have the patience for that so he’ll call into WFAN and scream about the “Same Old Jets”.  Fans like this are everything wrong with the New York sports fan base.

***EDIT***

According to the “thumbs down” I struck a nerve in @Prodigal Syndicate.  You can probably lump him in there as well.

***Edit #2: Electric Bugaboo***

@Jethead is, evidently, not happy either, as he likely fits this typecast too.

So my dad is a lifelong giants fans and I don’t even live in NY. I travel over 2 hours to go to games after I earned them after years of working hard in my 20s to afford them.

I absolutely love aggressive GMs who try to build a winning team and this league has proved its not baseball and does not take years to rebuild a team. Draft smart, sign the right vets and retain your own talent. None we can seem to do successfully. Yes I’m tired of Jet fans on this forum telling me about that magical 2-3 years when all the jets problems will finally be resolved because out of blue air our draft picks will finally work.

Keep trusting in that “process” you had advocated for the last 5 GMs. Keep getting pumped about draft day in the spring. I will get pumped when we actually win some games

1000% Correct and he's not the only one.  There are many fans who care more about the perception of the team and what their friends think than the actual team.

Maccagnan wasn’t aggressive, he was f*cking stupid.  A dream team has never amounted to anything in this league.  You and every other fan like you can keep demanding those drops of seratonin on WFAN though, I’m sure one day it will work in some teams favor.

In all my years watching this sport, the teams that win the championship are the teams with the home grown talent.  The teams that draft well.  The teams that stay away from the big ticket free agents that give half the effort after they get a salary cap crippling contract.  The Ravens, the Seahawks, the Patriots, the Eagles, the 49ers, the Saints, the Steelers, and most recently the Chiefs.  Those are the teams that have won following “the process” you make fun of.  Do you want the list of teams that have dismantled their window going for big ticket FAs??  Look at the Rams.  Super Bowl contenders to on the brink of needing a rebuild because they traded all of their first round picks while being “aggressive”. 2011 Jets?? 2011 Eagles??  2019 Cleveland Browns??  Want me to keep going???

Except now we finally have a GM committed to that mindset.  We’ve been trying it your way for 50+ years and look at where it’s gotten us.

Did you just start being a fan? Prior to Darnold the Jets have pretty much been in win now mode for the previous 10 seasons. How has that worked out?

I didn’t like Tannenbaum, but to his credit, he drafted well with Mangini assisting him and built a nice little window for himself.

I hated Idzik and thought he was a mistake that was the result of keeping Rex around.

I liked the idea of hiring a scout like Maccagnan, but I preferred hiring Ryan Pace that year.

Douglas is the first candidate that I wanted and actually ended up getting.

Try again.

Mac and Idzik were bottom of the run GM candidates.  Not many thought they were the best for the job but we gave them the benefit of the doubt until it wasn't warranted any longer.  JD is not at that point.  Not even close. If you knew this was a rebuilding year going into it then you wouldn't be so butt hurt. I accepted that reality but what I didn't expect was to be non competitive and for Darnold to look as bad as any QB in the league right now.  Thus the frustration with the man in charge of overseeing Darnolds progression.

Lmao what team you watch??

Is that English? I've watched an organization that has made splash after splash in FA while ignoring the core of the team year after year. An organization that has tried harder to win headlines than football games.  I'm tired of trying to put a bandaid on a bullet wound.  This organization needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom. I will gladly trade the next 2 years of terrible football for 10 years of sustained success.

Just look at the last 10 years.  At no point did the Jets attempt to build a core and they've been paying for it the past 5 years. Something needs to change.

The Darnold/Robby connection was one of the worst in the NFL last year for receivers who had at least 50 receptions. This rapport thing is so overblown. And George Fant has played pretty well at RT so far on his deal which is essentially a 1 year deal.

Gase basically chose the GM. So who exactly has the final decision on personnel moves. Is it a joint venture maybe these guys are on the same page. Which would be unusual. In any case they’re not doing a good job. This team has no impact players. It’s worse talent wise than last year.

rapport sam/robb was not special cos sam cant hold up his end....

he's currently 4th in the nfl is yards...  with an 83% catch rate.

I think that’s more Joe Brady’s scheme and coaching than Teddy Bridgewater tbh.  Robby, to his credit, improved as well.  Dude had no hands and effort issues here, but, in hindsight, I’d put myself out to pasture if I had to run routes in Gase’s scheme.

Its a long season.  Robby was good for 4 great games a year that inflated his stats then he took a vacation for the other 12. It was the same story the last 3 years.
