mrcoops
He was the guy I wanted at the time. No idea how successful he will prove to be, but he does have success in turning round teams at the college level.

Barkus
Rhule made temple relevant and brought Baylor back like a Phoenix from the ashes. That is what is needed here, a total culture change and rebuild. Maybe JD can do it after gase is fired????

Augustiniak
You must let douglas pick the hc next time if you finally want alignment. Then douglas drafts the qb and hopefully you have everyone on the same page.

Cool story, but Macc hasn’t been anywhere near this team in 16 months. This is on your boy and the maroons that hired him over guys like Kliff and Rhule.

Douglas is remaking the qb room for next season. We just didn’t want to believe this when he drafted a qb in the 4th round, but that’s what he was doing. sec101row23
I would take Matt Rhule and Joe Brady over Gase and Loggains every f**king day of the week. It’s not even close.

Scott Dierking
I wanted Rhule at the time, but many of the other comments here are correct. Macc was still a problem. The hierarchy of football operations (ownership being involved) is the true problem. NO ONE has the opportunity for success here until they get a VP of Football Operations, with a system to scouting and analytics, that makes the true decisions. Been saying it for years. jgb
Johnsons didn't just miss the best candidate--they chose the worst candidate! Just have to embrace the suck and see the humor in it at this point.

I don't understand how people weren't and aren't losing their minds over this. Control over the coaching staff is virtually unheard of, but the Jets let Mike Maccagnan exercise this prerogative, as a lame duck, to put Gregg Williams in a room with Joe Vitt. People tried to make like Gase was the guy because he got Maccagnan fired, but if Gase was even a guy, he never takes the job in the first place under those conditions, because look how much damage managed to get done in those five months. 3

Beerfish
The thing about a guy like Rhule is that he is a head football coach and a culture changing proven talent. The Jets hire coordinators, the last 3 guys essentially want nothing to do with one half of the team. And all of them has very subpar coordiantors for the part of the team they over saw.

Convenient for you to now switch sides and blame the owners for not firing macc, but still no blame for Gase who you believe is coaching to where the game is going.

predator_05
Rhule was happy to work for a new owner, in David tepper. I don't know about Tepper's football acumen, but he's a legend in the hedge fund game.

ageingjetfan
Gase has to go, no doubt. Where are all the McCarthy advocates now? Instead we are inducting Rhule in the hall and say what if as if any coach would win with this bunch of misfits. We need health, another draft where we hit on guys and sprinkled in free agents to give any coach a chance.

I have to concede the point on Gase, I guess. But the silver lining is that it looks like we’ll get another shot to hire your guy Mike McCarthy after the season and, bonus, we can pair him with Mike Maccagnan, as was your stated preference.
