Sam, Geno, and Mark

I agree that the Jets aren’t providing enough for Sam. There’s no debate. But we all watch. He misses throws he should make. His deep ball accuracy isn’t good.

I think Sam could end up a solid pro but I don’t see it happening this year. Not to mention, Sams gonna have to get paid about 18 months from now most likely. Do we want to commit 30m, 35m a year?

The team Mark had his first 2 years was nowhere close to the teams we've had the last two years. Everyone acknowledged in 2009/2010 that the missing piece was QB.

eh, i read plenty of Schotty/Rex holding back Sanchez development posts

Everyone acknowledged in 2013 that the missing piece in 2009/2010 was quarterback. 2012 we were still having this argument. At the time? You're out of your mind or just lying.

Pretty much. 9 years of the worst QB in the NFL.

With a solid OL, a successful running game and a decent core of WRs (Edwards, Cotchery and Holmes) Sanchez was more than adequate.  You almost have to feel as bad for Mark as you should for Darnold - tho Darnold is more talented.  As for Geno, he didn't have the skill set to be an NFL QB - perhaps in the right setting he could have been developed - but more likely the chip on his shoulder (and in his jaw) prevented that - in the end that was all on Marty Mornhinweg who had to have Geno.

Sam Darnold is a 3rd year QB.  He's not a prospect anymore.  He's just a bad quarterback.

It's too soon to give up on this guy IMO. He's going to be a good NFL QB in a better situation. We should try to build that better situation and build him back up. If we're successful at building a better situation and he's not the guy, it's a much better landing spot for the next potential guy.

Agree he hasn't played well and needs to be better.

Ryan Fitzpatrick could have taken those teams to the Super Bowl.

I think you, any many others, fall under the spell of the highlight plays.  Backyard football is certainly fun, but there's a reason no Globetrotters are in the NBA.  Darnold, unfortunately is really bad at the bread and butter QB stuff, and that's a huge problem for him because he's not insanely athletic to make up for poor fundamentals and poor decision-making, and frankly, even the super athletic QBs are better at the fundamentals, and typically make better decisions, than him.  Will he produce more with better weapons?  Sure, but, hard to see any reason why it'd be better enough to take us out of the market for a QB when we pick top 3 this year.

It's not just better weapons. better protection, better system, coaching, defense (field position). The guy hasn't had a chance to settle in and do the basics because the situation around him is absolute chaos.

The reason you stay out of the QB market is because you'd be plunking any new QB into the same sh*t roster. I think they should build the roster and see if Darnold can be salvaged. If he can't be, at least you have a better situation for the next guy to walk in to - assuming JD can build better than the last two morons.

We've already got decent draft capital. We can gain a metric ****ton more trading down from #1 overall. Infuse the roster with a bunch of young talent and let the chips fall where they may.

You're supposed to learn the basics in High School.

As for staying out of the QB market, you do realize that we stayed out of the QB market and entered the strong safety market, because we had a QB in Christian Hackenberg that we still wanted to see develop.  The thing we should be fearing is that situation again, not the extremely remote chance we gave up on Darnold too soon.

If you're going to lump Darnold in with Hackenberg I think we can stop pretending we're having an honest conversation.

Not just Hackenberg. Fitzpatrick and Geno and Sanchez and Pennington. It's all the same thing. Dudes cry about giving up on Darnold too soon like they've ever given up on anybody soon enough. In 20 years the Jets have never had a good reason not to be in the quarterback market.

Been hearing this same sh*t for ever. What is the compulsion some have to make excuses for under performing QBs?

Even in 2004 on a stacked team people said Pennington was really superior to Brady and was being held back by Hackett, Herm and poor WRs

That one is better than the other doesn't make the one an NFL QB, or a reason to pass on a QB who's possibly actually good.

Obviously that's not what he's saying. Darnold is clearly better than Hackenberg.

But the fact remains that we passed on Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson because of hope that a player would turn into something he isn't.

Passing on another elite QB prospect based on hope that Darnold will turn into something he hasn't been able to demonstrate he is would be crazy.

No way man, just surround Darnold with 21 all pros and watch the magic
