The Saints got an unexpected surprise after they arrived in Detroit on Saturday night.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Saints learned late Saturday night that fullback Michael Burton tested positive for COVID-19.

While it’s possible that Burton’s positive is a false positive, the league and the Saints have commenced supplemental testing of players who were in close proximity to Burton. The league’s contact tracing identified three players. Four other players not identified via bracelets worn by the players were sitting near Burton on the plane, including running back Alvin Kamara.

Currently, the Saints are awaiting testing for the seven players, including re-testing of Burton.

Based on the precedent created Saturday in conjunction with the Patriots-Chiefs game, the Saints-Lions game should be postponed, at a minimum for a day or two, in order to allow further testing to occur (unless it’s quickly determined that Burton generated a false positive). Otherwise, Saints players could (in theory) spread the virus to other Saints players and ultimately to Lions players during the game on Sunday.

And all of this is happening at a time when the Saints should be fully focused on final preparation for a game that begins in less than 13 hours — and getting enough sleep before the game begins.

Nah, season not done. But they are going to need to ramp up the precautions and possibly move to a 14 or 12 game season.

This is happening likely because after no positives in 3 weeks some players are hitting the bars and nightclubs.

Teams need to create their own bubble for the rest of the year.

Hopefully, just the game between Championship week and Super Bowl would need to be removed but they need to create alternative schedules. If the owners are greedy they will allow an imbalanced number of games and go off winning %.

And no if NFL season were cancelled Monday we would not get first pick. Probably around 4. They wont cancel this week though.

Our strength of schedule will put us at the worst draft pick of all teams with equal records

100% Guaranteed they would go to a draft lottery. We are the only 0-4 team at the moment, so no way to do draft order fairly unless all teams have played same amount of games.

But the season isnt ending, so it wont matter.

Season done. Do we technically have the #1 pick?

I heard the same thing from baseball fans when we had a few positive tests during the season. The NFL is fully prepared for this. Zero chance season is over.

Some of you are acting is the NFL testing was put in place to guarantee zero positives when it is in place because they know they will get positives and will then have the ability to limit the spread and avoid infecting other teams.

Even if there are 2/3 games cancelled each week, the season could easily be extended a few weeks if necessary.

It would be so typical for the jets to not get Lawrence despite worst record due to an unprecedented COVID situation and use of a lottery. Like the strike year in reverse.

Get ready for it.  No way they’ve played enough games so far for the standings to merit a standard draft (where we’d pick 1st).  My guess is they’d have to play at least a 9 game season to avoid a lottery.
