Still not as bad as the NBA.  Which as far as I can tell is a pickup league where you're only allowed to shoot from three spaces on the three point line.  Never take a mid range jumper.  And anybody who's seven feet can't play in the low post anymore.  The NFL is different now but it hasn't been completely bastardized.  Americans have ruined the NBA and shunned baseball because it wasn't cool enough.  Be lucky we still have the NFL in some enjoyable form.

Baseball decided about 15 years ago that even if the world was speeding up in every way, they wanted to slow things down. To a crawl. Nobody wants to watch 3.5 hours of not very much happening. And they even know their product is garbage. There were no MLB playoff games scheduled on Saturday nor Sunday this weekend. They know they cannot compete with college football and the NFL.

I don't doubt that MLB never helped themselves. But critics started saying that the sport was dead well before 15 years ago.  Go back to spring training into the early nineties and there was a "What can save baseball?" front page article in one of the major sports publications every spring training for 25-30 years.

That kind attitude is eventually going to be sold to a generation that the sport isn't important at all.  And we blame the owners for encouraging steroids?  Oh it destroyed our preconceived notions of fair play in a sport most of us wanted to see die anyway.  Meanwhile basketball players are going overseas for a good part of the off season to Germany (wink wink)...we could care less.  I don't mind sensible critical rebutted of a sport culture that doesn't appeal any more.  Thar's fine.  But unrelenting hatred for something when it's not understood or appreciated in any way.  That's dumb.  If you were a fan once... go ahead.  Plug away.  But "oh I hate baseball so much!"  Ever been to a game?  "No.  They are so boring!"  Great frame of reference there.

(I may he Jim Cornette here ranting away. But I at least now why I dont watch the game any more. I can't see something I loved slowly die.)
