Need QB, eventually get QB, fail to build team around QB, discard QB. And if the hype is as good as you say - the price goes up as hopefully we'll have more than one interested team vying for the chance to draft him. Probably all a pipe dream anyway, either way ... you just know the Jets will Jets it up somehow. Or Covid will Jets it up for us. We're not going to have the first pick and JD is not going to trade a ton of draft capital to get it. So stop dreaming about Lawrence. Isn't going to happen. As usual we will win a couple of games nobody expects us to win and a couple of games at the end of the season when playoff teams are resting their whole team and we will wind up with the 6th pick again. 1

For clarity ... I'm not pro-Lawrence, I want us to build a team around the guy we have. Changing QB and hoping for a sudden improvement in our record is not where my mind is. IF (and it's a big IF) we did end up in a position to draft him, I want to see JD trade down and pick up the biggest haul imaginable. (The guy got three high picks for a SAFETY, imagine what he can get for a highly touted QB prospect ). But as I said in my post, I agree that it's most likely a pipe dream. Because Jets.
Bruce Harper
Good. I want us get curb stomped the rest of the season into drafting Lawrence.I guess there’s a reason we didn’t fire Gase. Jetster
I keep reading posts that people want to build around Sam Darnold & not take Trevor Lawrence? Sam Darnold is 1 more season away from a 35 million dollar per year pay day & quite frankly hasn't shown he can play the position at a level that deserves a blockbuster deal, or that he can stay healthy because he holds onto the ball too long. The Jets will have enough ammunition to take Trevor, sign Juju or Allen Robinson, maybe a TE, one more Guard like (Scherff, Thuney or Stanley), draft another Olineman, WR, and start trying to sure up the defense. A WR core of Juju or Robinson, Mims, Crowder, J.Smith, V.Smith & Barrios is a good group. So imagine if JD can also land Ettiene for Trevor. Great mix of young & experience to grow with. The goal should be to really elevate the team going into 2022 with 2 more 1st round picks, another pick we get for Darnold, which WILL BE a mid round #1 from an NFC team. We'll only be in Lawrence 3rd year under his rookie deal.

I personally dont see us getting #1 overall so I dont think it will be a decision, but if we do, you take Trevor and let everything else figure itself out. That being said if we are picking 5, 6 or 7 we can still land Lance or Fields with the benefit of having another first to build the team, and let the rookie sit behind Sam with a new coach and see what happens. On top of that, FA will be completely different this season. Yes the owners are happy to have games but they are losing millions of dollars in tickets, concessions, parking etc so if the cap were to go down even a little or just stay the same, there will be a lot of players available who normally wouldn't. And not just older "cap casualties" but legitimate 28-30 year old quality starters who we will be able to afford to bring in to help build around what we have. As far as the original topic, this season is lost and frankly they should let Mims rest 3 more weeks so he can possibly get 8 games at at the end of the year to get some pro reps. Players like him, Huff, Franklin-Myers, Clarke, Perrine, Jeff Smith and Lamar Jackson should all get as much playing time as possible, hopefully along with Bryce Hall if he is able to play later in the year. We need to get the young guys reps and guys like Nathan Shephard, Henry Anderson, GVR, shouldn't be playing.

If he was a free agent, no team is going to pay him huge guaranteed money / long term contract. He'd have to take a "prove it" type deal to get back into the "blockbuster" territory - if he "proves it". Look at Winston for example ... 1 year deal in New Orleans as a backup. And you could argue that Winston has shown far more good stuff than Sam has to date. (Trivia time - both Sam and Jameis threw a pick six on their first career throw ). Winston had a far better offensive group around him than Sam has ever had. I'm basing trading Darnold on us landing the #1 pick in the draft with a guy sitting there that NOT ONE team needing a QB would bypass & getting to reset the clock to 5 years without being hamstrung like the Jets were having to move UP to get Sam. Bell is the last sh*t contract left, he'll be a goner as soon as it can be done with the least cap hit. So, after moving up to take Darnold, we had very little draft capital, but if we land the #1 pick, we'll still have 3 first round picks, plus what we get for Sam Darnold. I know many people here don't believe anyone would trade for Darnold a mid round 1st & I totally disagree with that thinking based on his age (younger than Burrow & Mayfield) and the fact that Adam Gase ruined Ryan Tannyhills career until the Titans ressurected him. Joe D has no connection to Darnold so he's going to take "feelings" out of the equation & do whats best for the long term success of the franchise, even if he thinks Darnold can be a good NFL QB surrounded by talent. With the cap flexibility of a 5 year Lawrence or maybe Fields rookie contract he can easily surround the young QB with more talent just like the Raven did with Jackson & the Eagles did with Wentz when he got the starting gig. JetBlue
You know guys the only good thing about all of this is because of Covid 19, this season is something of a mulligan. I mean you got guys testing positive left and right and we are only 4 games in. Whats going to happen if this trend continues? More games postponed or rescheduled? Whole season should have an asterick next to it. Let our young rookies get fully healthy and play. We have a ton of draft picks and cap space for next season. Add a new HC and quarterback (Lawrence, Fields or Lance) and things could be looking a lot different for this franchise. As far as this season goes, I just want to see Becton, Davis, Zuniga, Perine, Hall, Mims and Clark get as much PT as possible.
