AVM
I like Sowell, but it's about time Askew gets a shot. We wasted a third rounder on him for God's sake. Let's give the poor guy a chance to prove that he was at least worth a 6th. wouldnt it be typical is askew ends up being more than worth that 3rd round pick, a probowl calibur FB even.....and it just proves how stupid the former regime was? Maxman
Harry Williams was cut? He has Hall Of Fame talent. How could they do such a thing. Oh wait let me log in as my second account (Barton) and retype that. Lance Legree was brought in to be a backup. And he sucked at that. He won't be missed. I met Garnder on draft day last year. Nice guy. Obviously Mangini is factoring in on the field performance into these decisions. That is a refreshing change.

That I think we all could live with-Askew is more of a runner than a blocking type in that position- his background at Michigan was more of a halfback type

I don't think Askew is a great blocker. I could be wrong, who the hell knows? It's not like we've seen him play in the NFL or anything. But, IMO, a fullback has to be DAMN GOOD to justify being picked on the first day of the draft.

The Troll
Hello, Kendall, Mawae and Penneboy are next in line... maybe hobson!!! Why cut Hobson? I do think he is shaping out to be one ****ty second round pick, but I don't think it's time to cut him yet. Herman Edwards wasn't his biggest fan. Surely, that means Hobson must have been doing something right. Maybe he is too hard a worker, or he liked Terry Bradway's BBQ better.

The Troll
Hellooooooo, Herm never benched this turd this year for his sorry ass play, i think Herm liked this stiff!! He had no choice. The last time Herm had options, he started an undrafted free agent instead of a second-round pick. I'd like to see what Hobson can do with better coaching. I really don't see him amounting to much, but I really, really do not want this to turn into another James Farrior situation.
SouthernJet
What will be an appropriate cut for CM to take? What will be considered the right cut for the good of the team? vet minimum,,, if he can get more, great adidos,, why do we need him, ,he wont be here in 2 years when we are competetive so what good does it do to overpay,, if he wants to stay at minimum and be a backup and a presence in lockeroom then great,,, but the free charity days of Herm are over,,

SouthernJet
So the new admin will have done a bad job if they keep CM at more than vet minimum? all depends on how much over ,, thats what i would do,, politics will probably give cm a contract a tad over minimum with incentives,, i would pay him with the mindset that he is 2nd or 3rd string and will be gone by next year,, no loyality dollars given out by this regime,,
The Troll
Curtis needs to stay for leadership purposes. Who else is going to tell the young players that they must play, no matter how injured they are, so that their more talented backup can't take their job? I would just as soon cut Martin. He is currenty Jerome Bettis, minus 150 pounds and the occasional ability to break a tackle. He is done.

SouthernJet
I would take old veterans (defined as probably not in league in 2 to 3 years) for close to or minimum if they are backups.. teach the ropes etc,,as backups,, dont overpay for a vet starter, let a kid get the playing time so when we are competitive we will have experience at the position
aec4
Bye-bye $13M of Jets cap. I had the count at 10M saved. Remember, the top 51 count. Even if you add 7 base minimum guys to the cap, at either 230 or 310K, that adds about 2M onto the cap. So you may let go of 12, but you add 2... The Troll
Troll-This brings me back-In your mind, if CM is on teh roster, will the new admin have gone "soft"? They seem to be doing a great job of purging this team of the aging, declining vets so far, don't they? I have no doubt that Martin will be back at a reduced salary. But he will not be the starter. If Edwards were still here, I have no doubt that Curtis Martin would be getting the bulk of the carries. With Mangini, he won't. Personally, I do not see Martin having one iota of success as a change of pace back. Change of pace backs need to either have great burst, or be a big bruiser. Martin is neither. I expect him to struggle to reach 3 yards per carry this upcoming season. So, to answer your question, No, I don't feel like Martin coming back at a reduced salary as a backup will mean the new regime has gone soft. But if Martin were to stay on under his current contract and remain the starter, then yes, I would be extremely pissed off.
