What a true die-hard that kid is!

He promises to be a fan, through thick and "thin", of the team that has won the most championships, hasn't missed the playoffs in ~25 years (certainly never in his lifetime), and can (and does!) spend money on absolutely whatever top free-agents it wants.

Sounds about as impressive as Woody and Chris Johnson bragging about their business acumen!

Bandwagon much?

My dad in 1974:  Let's go to a Mets game.

Me in 1974:  I like the Yankees.

My dad in 1974:  Well, I'm a Brooklyn Dodger fan so I'm good with whoever you root for.

Me in 1974:  Thanks dad.

On Long Island in the early 70's it was all Mets country.  All the Brooklyn Dodger fans moved there and had offspring and adopted the new National League team and of course they had the miracle season.

I didn't become a baseball fan until '74 and my friend at the time was into the Yankees and Rangers and so therefore did I.

I thank that 10 year old kid every day.  I can't imagine being a Mets/Jets/Islanders fan.  Yankees/Jets/Rangers offers a nice amount of balance.

This is how a real organization gets it done. Steinbrenner at one point wanted to buy the Jets and Hess would not sell. Imagine that and how many SB this team would have won

I would take a dead drunk or drunk dead or just plane ole dead Billy Martin right now somewhere, anywhere in this fakakta organization.

What a feel good story these Yankees are. It's pathetic, actually.

Imagine if the Jets spent nearly 4x what the Jaguars spent and still lost to them.

Or, barely beat them and had people crowing about how well-run the Jets are in the aftermath.

Yankees total 2020 payroll:  $109.4M

Rays total 2020 payroll:  $28.3M

Tampa Bay Rays are the minor league clubhouse of the MLB. They develop great players for others to sign. Still, having an outstanding season this year.

And that is an inherent problem with the MLB:  Too many teams and no spending floor.  Yet Yankee fans always try to paint their team as a plucky upstart.

They pay hefty luxury taxes for it, not their fault other team markets are broke.

You get some decent respect for your choice only because the Yankees were just coming out of their I think it was over a decade miserable "Horace Clarke era", and there were huge numbers of bandwagon Met fans having almost had the miracle of all miracle runs in 1973...getting hot in September to win their division barely being over .500 (although they dealt with tons of injuries that year) but then taking down the Big Red Machine and then giving that incredible Oakland A's team a super scare, being up 3 games to 2 and Seaver pitching game 6...just wasn't to be.  I thought going forward that the Mets would always at least be competitive after that season, but unfortunately they had Misers for owners going into the free agency era.

I've Always been Mets-Jets-Rangers, though the Mets and Jets have been boycotted with my dollars for a Long time.  Jets are on my "Wilpon Watch" and sadly will always be because I know the Johnsons will never sell.  Mets are finally off the boycott because they finally have an Owner who has been a Winner at everything in life since Day 1...just like the Steinbrenners.

And whoever berates the Yankees for losing tonight is wrong.  You can't win it all every year, but they treat their fans to excitement with the chance of ALWAYS being able to win it all.  You can't ask for more as a fan.
