Week 5 Preview: Jets Hope to Bring end to Winless Streak

Jamison Crowder

Adam Gase and the winless New York Jets will take on the 2-2 Arizona Cardinals at home as they search for their first victory of the season.  A plethora of injuries will make for some interesting matchups for Gang Green that will only make things harder to enter the win column.  Some of the key matchups?  Let’s take a look.

Jets CB’s vs WR DeAndre Hopkins:  There’s not a cornerback on the Jets roster who has a snowball’s chance in hell to slow Hopkins down.  If you have Hopkins in a fantasy league, you might be able to start him, bench the rest of your roster and come away with a blowout win.

LT Chuma Edoga vs Chris Jones:  Adam Gase played things fast and loose with injured left tackle Mekhi Becton so he’ll be missing some more time after playing injured last week.  In his place, the team should move George Fant to left tackle with Edoga playing on the right side but if history is any indicator, Gase will throw Edoga out at left tackle.  Going against Chris Jones at that spot could make Joe Flacco starting a moot point as he many not last very long.  Don’t be surprised if we see multiple QB’s on Sunday.  If it’s Fant over Edoga, it’s still a big matchup, but gives the Jets a better chance at keeping their quarterbacks upright.

CB Brian Poole vs WR Andy Isabella:

Isabella is a speed demon who should have little trouble creating space between himself and Poole.  Double teaming Isabella isn’t really an option as any extra bodies in the secondary will likely be dedicated to Hopkins on the outside.  Look for offensive genius Kliff Kingsbury, whom the Jets passed on to hire Adam Gase, to get as many players involved on offense as possible

WR Jamison Crowder vs CB Byron Murphy:

As per usual, the Jets best chance to move the football probably depends on their ability to get the ball to Jamison Crowder.  He’ll likely draw coverage from Murphy for much of the day which is a favorable head-to-head for Crowder who has done a fantastic job of getting open so far this season.

Prediction:

The Jets aren’t good enough to be another NFL team at this point.  They drop to 0-5 with a 41-3 loss.

Maybe I'm wrong on this, I've been wrong before, but

-Fant is going to play LT, Edoga is going to play RT. Just a gut instinct no inside info - but it's both player's natural position

-Deandre Hopkins is excellent he's also been slowed by an ankle injury the last couple weeks. I suspect Dan Arnold will rip them apart someone we don't expect

the Jets will probably lose but not by 38 this weekend

this feels like overly emotional reporting
