Honestly I’d be surprised if anyone offered higher than a late 2nd or 3rd given the fact he only has one year of team control unless you pick up his 5th year option.

Of course as we saw with Leonard Williams Jamal Adams, and Teddy Bridgewater it only takes one team. I’m sure there are some GMs/coaches out there that likes Darnold in the draft and would think they could fix him.

If I’m the Jets I don’t move him for anything less than a 2nd. I know a lot folks disagree, but even if the Jets did draft a QB in the first round Id still like to see what Darnold looks like in year 4 under a new head coach. To me that would be worth more than a 3rd round pick that Douglas will likely blow anyway.

If we trade him, I’m expecting a 2nd or a 3rd round pick. Honestly, we should give him the Garapolo treatment. Focus on sending him to a good team. We’ve done him wrong and it’s the least we can do. Pittsburg or NOLA would be two good trade partners.

Lets not opt to trade him in the AFC. Also, since we may have less chance to get the 1st pick then we think partially due to SOS, Darnold may not be as much of a goner as we might think.

Here’s the pertinent part of the article:

I don't think they'd get a [first-round pick] for Sam, but it also depends what he puts on tape the rest of the year," one general manager told ESPN. "The problem is, [Darnold] is struggling with his accuracy, his durability -- so they're in a tough spot. And if everyone knows the Jets are taking a quarterback, then they won't get as much back."

Another GM also predicted the Jets wouldn't get back a first-round pick for Darnold.

"The high-water mark would be a [second-round pick] for him," one GM said this weekend. "I think they could get a [fourth-round pick] for him, but if he finished positive for him, they might get a 2 for him. In college, he was a turnover machine. In the NFL, he has been a turnover machine. I just don't think he has the credentials to go for a 1."

A third GM cautioned that a first-round pick was possible, adding, "If you still believe the guy is a top-pick-caliber QB, and consider his circumstances, you don't close the door on it."

What’s even scarier would be for Flacco to light it up for the next three weeks which would hurt Sam’s value even more plus possibly knock us out of a top 3 pick. It could also convince Chris Johnson that it’s not Gases fault and retain him for next year.

I'm quite confident Sam is going to come back to haunt us in a big way (assuming we trade him).  Something along the lines of Sam beating us (with Trevor as our QB) in the AFC CG for the Steelers.

In another thread, I told people that QBs drafted in the top ten do not go on to have success on another team (no matter how much they were done wrong by the 1st team). They tried to find an example...they did...Jim Plunkett in 1971. That's the last guy who did it so it's probably safe to untwist your panties on Darnold.

We're gonna trade him cheap, which'll make it feel even worse.

He might.  I still think he has some potential, but I don't think it happens for him here.  In my opinion, barring a major turnaround over the rest of the season, I think both player and team need to start over.  Let him go elsewhere sit behind an established starter and learn the position all over again in a better situation with better coaching.  I still think he can be a good player, just don't think it will be here.  If we can get something for him that helps us start over (yet again) then I am moving him.

Watt and a 2 for Darnold?  Sold.

Watt is too good a player to be traded.

Teams know he's cheap, and the Jets are practically telegraphing their intent to #tankfortrevor with their crappy performances and inept decision-making.

I'd take a 3rd and a conditional pick. This is probably max value for Darnold.

Translation: 3rd round pick and free lifetime Mono medication.

What separates Sam fromn Mason Rudolph and Josh Dobbs?

Also, if Pitt wants him - I’d defer to their scouts and coaches knowing better than ours.

Upside.  Dobbs has thrown 12 passes in his NFL career, so I wouldn't compare him to Darnold.  Rudolph has a small sample size compared to Sam, but has put similare numbers.

If there is any truth to the rumors ot Pitt's interest, I would assume they see a 23 year old QB who has been handled poorly by the Jets, but they feel he is a guy with more upside than Rudolph and Dobbs.  If Ben plays another year or two, and Darnold takes over at 25; he could still play for 10 more years.

Why would the Steelers even entertain this? Roethlisberger looks fine and claims he wants to play a few more seasons, and if they’re going to do that, keeping Watt is paramount for any playoff push. The Steelers rumors are odd, imo, and based almost entirely on JuJu’s comments, and JuJu probably isn’t even a Steeler next season.

Darnold gets a 3rd rounder, at best, if Douglas really works some magic.

Sounds reasonable.  I had definitely been seeing Darnold through dark green colored shades since he’s been drafted. He’s had some flashes but is just flatlining. He’s not getting better and the excuse of a poor roster is just getting old.  Great players rise above the muck. Yea obviously it’s a team game and all that jazz but Darnold just has this built in sulking attitude which projects that his poop don’t stink ? Taking a better assessment of Darnold, through many JetNation posters, it’s evident Darnold lacks poise, vision, sound mechanics and equally important, leadership. I’ve just never seen him pissed off in the field when a play breaks down or assignment blown.  He has this uncaring, disinterested look. On the other side of the gamut, you have a guy like Brady, screaming, staring down teammates to get their head out their azzes when they make a mistake. The sign of a great player: Darnold has just not made anyone better.
