So, it looks like Robbie "bet on himself". He felt his money was soft in FA, and rather than taking the longer term deal with the same average (not sure the guarantees in either), he felt he could perform and get his last big contract then.

What is not clear is did he come back to the Jets with that same offer Carolina had, and the Jets said "no".  I would find that hard to believe.

We don't know a lot.  I just think the situation isn't quite, Jets made an undermarket offer and Robby had no choice but to go elsewhere.

And, if he was betting on himself, which, if this report is to be believed, I think we can all understand why the Jets/Sam Darnold in 2020 were not the place to make that bet.

As, I'm sure you agree.

Interesting. Not sure about Boomer, but fair enough.

No idea if that was the only source, just remember it was something we spoke about at the time.  That was the first thing that came up when I googled 'robby anderson 40 million.'

No it isn't.  Guys literally hold out on the franchise tag because they want "more security."  4/40 is, in fact, more security.  Is it a much better deal?  No.  Certainly not.  But he did chose the 2 year option - at least per this.

I'm not defending letting him go.  I liked Robby.  Probably more than most.  But, Robby is having his best year, not unsurprisingly, away from Sam Darnold, who is a bad QB and worse deep ball QB.

You don't know how much guaranteed money he had so you cant say that the deal had more security.

The deal the Jets offered prevents him from getting another big deal. The Jets deal likely guarantees that Robby will remained underpaid the rest of his career.

Robby also tweeted that the 4/40 was inaccurate so not sure why this is even being brought up.

He took less money to play in Carolina.  He didn’t want to play here anymore.  Probably because our QB couldn’t make use of his ability.

More that Gase found every way except one to NOT use his talents.

What about the other years that weren't comparable to his current production?

Robbie is winning this, if he continues this way, he will get an extension, in the 18 to 20 per range.

Douglas likes more like a muppet Daily.

Does this mean that Douglas should have given Anderson 18-20 m per year? For a a "non-game breaker"? for someone that has brushes with the law (to be kind)?

You could make a pretty decent team of recently former Jets who are running around the league right now.  Everyone from Robby Anderson, Jamal Adams, Demario Davis and Brian Winters to a QB depth chart of Teddy Bridgewater and Ryan Fitzpatrick.  Just need someone who could coach them.

Please? Another strike on JD

Not sure how this is a strike on JD.  What do you think his numbers would look like if he played the last 5 games with the Jets?

No but they could have got him for 12 per.

We aren’t getting anywhere if JD continues to

be this cheap banking on picks. How is his first draft class contributing so far

exactly

This tweet appears to suggest that Adam Gase failed to get the most out of an offensive player.  Blasphemy, I say.

Bridgewater is better at those short and medium routes than Darnold but with his popgun arm he isn't better with the deep ball, which is Robby's strength and makes him a valuable and dangerous game changer.

I heard 4/40 here.

4/40 with the same 1 guaranteed season is a worse - actually much worse - offer than 2/20. He's tied to the team for 4 years but the team isn't tied to him for more than 1.

Carolina's offer gives him the opportunity to up his dollars; the Jets' offer locked him in at WR2/3 dollars for a full 4 years, which is basically 1 guaranteed season followed by 3 consecutive 1-year deals he either has to take or quit.

If he wasn't performing here he wouldn't have seen the last 2 years of the Jets' deal either; if he was performing he could have gotten that again 2 years from now.

Plus given how contracts are typically structured, it's a more than likely guess that more than $20MM was in the final 2 years, making the first 2 years less than $20MM.

The Jets didn't offer him nearly as good a deal as Carolina, let alone a better one.

Not to mention, he was front loaded $12 mil year one in case things did work out and the Panthers wanted to move on.
