  1. 1. Do you think Leveon Bell is still good?

    • Yes, he's still an upper tier RB we should build the offense around
    • No, he's lost a step and clearly isn't a top flight RB in 2020

Nope, otherwise the Steelers would have worked harder to keep him and more teams would have tried to acquire him.  As usual, Mike Maccagnan bid against himself.  This time for the services of a 27-year old RB with nearly 2,000 career touches.  Is it really any surprise he wouldn't be any good here?

Sure, a better coaching staff would be able to squeeze some more out of him.  My guess is his abilities as a pass catcher would still show up for a contender and he'd be useful 1B/# 2 back.  But he's not a top-half RB in the NFL anymore.

Misleading title.  Good and top flight aren't the same thing.

I mean, good, upper tier, top flight. All the same. Is he one of the better players in the league at his position? I didn't say elite, or great.

I think he's still got a place on an NFL team, and probably is still capable of what he's doing here, but he's not top flight anymore by a long shot.

If he "probably is still capable of what he's doing here" then clearly your answer is no, because he has sucked on this team.

I suppose.  But at RB, if you're not a top 15 or so guy, you're basically a JAG.  There's not much of a gap between the # 16 back in the league and the # 30 guy.  The RB payscale across the league bears that out as well.

i tend to think that bell still has a lot of gas in the tank and it just playing for gase who prefers running back by committee.  this is no criticism of gase in this regard.  some players just don't fit the schemes.  bell can still play at a high level and, as we've seen can catch and pass protect.  imo he wants the ball 20+ times a game and that's just not in the cards with the jets .

So Gase choosing a 37 yr old slug who averages 17 carries and 9 yards a game vs Bell who is also a great WR is ok.

It’ll be interesting to see how he does elsewhere. Same with Sam if we ship him out. If they tank there is some vindication for the Jets. If they excel, the problem was ours. Wish them both luck wherever they are. It’s a tough game. They both have been good team players overall.

Bell took a year off to spend time with his agent plotting a return to a team which they could dupe knowing he was slower and no longer elite.   They identified the NY Jets Football Team--"led" by the tandem of Mike Mccagnan and Adam Gase--as their target and fleeced it in a manner many historians would term as masterfully.

Bell is still a "good" running back but is probably a better puzzle piece that could help a team in the passing game. It doesn't mean that you should build an offense around him but the vast majority of teams in the NFL would likely benefit from having him on the team. It's a damn shame that our "offensive genius" never even tried to use him correctly.

be honest here.  gore was brought in for stability. i'd be willing to bet they thought perine would be available from day one and that bell wouldn't go out for a couple of games.  sometimes the plans just don't work out the way they're drawn up. bell was going to be the primary back.

RB Ty Johnson recently signed think we will ever see him or will Gase keep shoving Gore down our throats.

Why would the slowest RB in the game help in the passing game?
