PatsFanTX
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...otes/index.html "Quarterback Quandary Jets QB Chad Pennington was due to make $9 million this season, $3 million via bonus, $6 million in salary. The club has cut it down to an offer of $1 million. I've never heard of anyone getting chopped that much, but it's the old disgruntled-suitor syndrome. He'd supposedly recovered from his shoulder operation last year. He said it felt fine. Then after three games he went down again. The Jets felt betrayed. I should have seen that he wasn't throwing right, that the ball didn't have enough velocity, but you know, when you want to believe something hard enough, your vision is often blurry. And I was pulling hard for Pennington, one of the game's really nice people. But now the Jets are telling him, in a sense, put your money where your mouth is. You say you're OK, then show us. If you make it through, you collect the rest of your pay in the form of incentives. If not, well, then you've lost the gamble. Of course his agent, Tom Condon, would never let this happen, but what if, by some strange quirk, a show of determination, a thrust of the chin, he did? Well, it reminds me of the contract signed by a former Jets' first-round draft choice 36 years ago, a cornerback named Steve Tannen. He did the contract himself -- practically everyone did in those days -- and he signed for one year. I asked him why. "Because then the team can cut me if they don't think I'm any good, if they got a pig in a poke." He lasted five years. Could Pennington possibly? ... naah, it's nonsense. Foolishness. But still ..." NIGHT STALKER
TX, I was a mod on another board (which shall remain nameless)...I didn't like him coming out of Marshall and I didn't like him when other Jet fans were stating he was the man without him taking a snap...fast forward now and we have a QB with a 64 mil contract, not one, but two rotator cuff injuries and a guy who has never played a full season...yeah, he's the savior alright....but, I am never one to tell you, I told you so.
