Darnold, Becton, & Perriman; Injury Updates

Breshad Perriman

Here is the injury update from head coach Adam Gase today.

Sam Darnold won’t participate today, like we said, he’ll be out for the game. Limited in practice will be: (Mekhi) Becton; Bless (Austin); (John) Franklin-Meyers; Alex Lewis; Breshad Perriman and Quinnen Williams.

Is Perriman and how does he help this team?

He had no complaints going into yesterday, no complaints afterwards. Things are trending in the right direction. We need to have another good day today. But, it’s good to get some of these guys out there.

I think it helps anytime you get a guy that is as fast as he is. It puts a different pressure on the defense. We haven’t had anybody with this kind of speed out there since he’s been gone. The guy had a really productive second half of the season last year, and he definitely was our best guy in training camp. We really saw some things where we were excited, and then we had the setback with the injury and then he was out for a while, then we noticed a difference and then he gets hurt in the San Fran game – wiped out a lot of things in our game plan, what we had that week. I think now with the combination we have right now I think our speed is increasing on the outside, which is extremely helpful at that position.

Denzel Mims

He did a lot of reps yesterday in scout team, made a lot of nice plays. It was good to see him get out there and compete, was able to do more than what he did on Wednesday. Today, I’ll be interested in seeing how he feels when I talk to him. We’ll just keep building off these practices and kind of seeing how quickly we can get him ready and ready for Sundays.

Will Mekhi Becton play on Sunday?

I don’t know. I mean I’m fired up that he’s going to individual. Who knows, if he feels good and he’s out there and all of a sudden he wants to jump into some team periods, I can’t answer that right now until we get to practice.

We’ve just got to talk with him. It’s all about, do the trainer’s, doctors have a concern? If they don’t and then he feels the right way, then we’ve got a chance. If he feels like something doesn’t feel right, then we don’t.

Ordinarily good news.  It’ll be good to see some real deep threats. Not having bell will have an impact because he was a good pass blocker and receiver.  We’ll see if Perine will take up some of the slack.

We need to get another stud RB as Perine learns how to block in the NFL this year (I want Ettiene bad next year).

We need Becton, Mims, and Perine being our main offensive additions in this 2020 draft class to get in there as they are fully and staying healthy to see how they are and get them to develop and be better. This offense needs to grow between now and the next few tears for this team to climb back up since now it likely will be a while that 25-30 points will be needed per game to have a chance to win since this D gives up a lot of points. But, bay steps first since right now scoring 15 points on average a game is all this O has been able to muster which is generally like 1 TD and 2-3 FGs. But, if you get guys like Perriman, Mims, and Perinr to make some of those FGs TDs then you can at least get the scoring to be in the 20's and have a chance. Of course everyone is looking for losses to get the number 1 pick, but we can see the offense get better and probably not increase the odds of winning too much since both Gase and the D will sink the team in probably almost any game. Heck, we did have a lead with like 5 minutes left against Denver and then between the D Penalties and not being able to stop anyone they gave up 10 points at the blink of an eye.

I would add Clark to that list. It would really be nice to know if he can be the future RG for this team. Its clearly not GVR and Lewis is probably not a long term solution at LG either. I think Fant is more likely to stick around, solidifying that RT position with a veteran presence.

Just for once can we see an offense that includes the full, normal expected OLine, the QB who has been in the system for two years, and at least 3 of 4 key pass catchers (Crowder, Perriman, Mims, Herndon)?  Is it too much to ask to see the Jets field something like that for a few games this season?  And let's give Perine more than 10 touches please.

Yes - so frustrating

I hope Perine is durable enough to take over the receiving work vacated by Bell in the Gase offense also. One target per week.

i think if gase goes then so will gase's running back by committee.  they'll probably go the route of the niners or rams and get atop flight back.  the question is whether they go into the draft or free agent.  mostert kicked around a number of reams before finally latching on so maybe there's a guy out there so they won't have to use a draft pick.  imo the draft picks need to be used on guys they can't get in free agency.

funny.  let's hope perriman does a lot more than one catch per game. maybe the season is toast but that doesn't mean we won't see how individual players do and see if they're worth carrying over to next season.

It sounds like a mixed bag for this week.  Darnold, Becton and Mims most likely out, Perriman most likely a go.

My guess is that all are back for Week 7 against Buffalo when we might actually see some semblance of the offense that was expected this past summer with both WR1, WR2 and Crowder as well as an intact OLine and Darnold.  But....who knows?!?!

Great.  Our WR "weapons" come back just in time to help our ancient QB backup squeak out a win against a beatable opponent and destroy our tank in the process.  Sounds very Jets to me.

Well it's not like were gonna see Rice and Montana out there you know?
