Former WR Roddy White to Lawrence: “Stay at Clemson if the Jets get the first pick

Here’s my two cents, if you’re the #1 overall pick & an extremely rare cant miss QB prospect.. you’re going to the worst team in the NFL.

Ive said this over and over again.  Hes going 1st, whoever is picking first is obviously a bad team.  This is how the draft works.  We hear this all the time, will someone go th Cleveland used to be the question, this year its us, next year someone else.  He gets a chance to play in the media capital of the world and just like wherever he goes will get a chance to help turn around a franchise.

Elway used the leverage of having the option of playing baseball as his means of forcing his way around the draft.  Eli pouted after saying I dont want to play in SD but would he have sat out if they didnt get the trade with the Giants?  Jim Kelly tried the same thing, told the Bills and everyone he wouldn't play in buffalo.  The Bills ignored the threats, drafted Kelly and he showed up and turned out a HOF career.

Unfortunately, number 1 QBs usually have to bite the bullet and go to the team that drafts them.  They are being guaranteed money that could last them the rest of their lives.  They are usually not willing to chance staying in school, and don't have the guts or strength to refuse to play for certain teams.

The trade off for that is that the NFL and their teams need to run a professional sports league and not allow themselves or their teams to become a chronic hazard to the health and well-being of their players.

The Jets have now crossed that line.  The solution is pretty easy.  The Jets need to get their acts together. fix their organization, and improve enough to make Lawrence refusing to play here a not credible proposition.   The NFL will put the word out that TL is being unreasonable.

But if the Jets continue like this, the NFL should tell the Jets to stand down and trade to the highest NFC bidder.

It’s the #1 reason Gase will get fired. The team needs to bring in a new respected coach and change the culture. Otherwise TL may very well balk at this organization with bug eyes still at the helm.

I'm betting the Jets blink first if he demands a trade or refuses to sign. Can you imagine the fallout if JD calls his bluff and he holds out and we get squat with the #1 pick? JD can't afford that risk. Lawrence (or his folks) will know that.

Can you imagine he holds out and the Jets get the number one again the following year and draft him a second time?

Do you remember Jim Kelly swearing to everyone he wouldn't play in Buffalo?  That he wouldn't show if picked?

If we do get the 1st pick and we want Trevor we have to offer Dabo Swinney double what he makes at Clemson to be the HC. 18.6mil per year, otherwise, next.

Here are the details of an Atlanta Falcons legend's arrest in Gwinnett County

According to the incident report, Roddy White had initially been cited for driving on a suspend/revoked license and committing an HOV violation. e8be4573-e336-4d99-b86c-8ed015f88ab8_1920x1080.jpg&key=f8aa71b8b4eb275070243032b9ebcc9150db9337901f30d1d7abb027f80b5bc5

What does this have to do with anything? This is similar to what cops do when they gun someone down— they dig up the seedy parts of a victims past to make what they did seem justified

He said what he said. His criminal past has no bearing on anything

Roddy White is not a credible person to be taking advice from.

All of these people chiming in are really pissing me off. They have no clue that we'll have another coach and a ton of high picks and cash because they would just rather blab and aren't smart enough or spend the time to see our assets moving forward. There is a reason we saved our money and traded our players - to stock up for the future. He may be a part of it. If not, I'm happy to give Sam a ton of weapons. He actually deserves it more than a new guy.

We are a complete abomination as an organization

Even the Browns didn’t get dragged this badly

This year is bad, but it's nothing compared to the Browns decade. We made a couple of runs - they were much worse for a longer period of time. They haven't made a run in decades. It's our fans and the NY media that make us out to be the worst because for some odd reason they like to keep us down. There are plenty of teams much, much worse off in the last 20 years.

In all seriousness, this narrative pushed by ESbostonPN and outside media that despise New York and "East Coast bias" is trash. For many reasons.

First off, From 1997 - 2011 the Jets were a respected and successful organization. 3 AFC Championship game appearances and multiple Playoff Years. Prior to that,  contrary to our own personal memories, the Jets of the 1980s were pretty damned good. 2 AFC Championship Game appearances and again, multiple playoff years. Sure, it was painful for US as Jets fans, but those teams were no joke, especially the Defense, and when O'Brien,  Toon, Walker, Shuler, and McNeil were on, that Offense was badass. Everyone wants to look at 2 years of Kotite and forget an entire Decade plus.

@GREENBEAN

Good stuff man. And I agree.  The Jets just have a habit of being REALLY bad when we're bad. Buttfumble etc type of stuff. We're easy to pick on but the truth is we have had some really good football teams and some bad luck.  There should be a ring during the years you mentioned but there's not.

Let's not forget the Cardinals in that group. That franchise has had spurts of decent, but overall sucked forever.  TLaw is not refusing to play here. It's just dumb, but it gets clicks so there it is.

No, you didnt get the memo from JETS FANS.  Not really the press.   Well maybe from the NY based media, they hear it from Jets fans who cry about their interpretation of Jet history on WFAN, ESPN radio etc.   The morning crew on NFLN talk about the callers all the time.

We're an embarrassment and our fans are the ones who want to tell everyone by screaming from the rooftops how much of an embarrassment we really are.  TL wont come here, havent you heard?  And they'll tell you how funny that would be.  We're worse than the Browns.  Or the Lions.  So he'll stay in school to avoid going to a team with the history above.  They actually believe this.
