The real heartbreak of this season has nothing to do with the record.  This would have been the 11th consecutive year my father and I went to an away game together.  Losing that sucks way more than this Gase/Darnold debacle.

That sucks man

We all know the Jets suck now. How has rooting for the Jets been a positive influence on you?

For me, it was spending time with my dad, skulking the dive bars in Raleigh in the late 80s and 90s looking for one that would put the game on for us. We spent a ton of time together and I wouldn't trade it for all of the Cheatriot's rings. When/if the time comes when we win it all, that will be something him and I can share together like a cold beer after crawling through the desert. But if it never comes, fact is we have been on this journey together and that's worth a lot to both of us.

Thats what its all about. My father was a fan, had season tickets at Shea and Meadowlands. Had some great memories with him at the games, even when things were bad. Some of my most vivid (for better of worse) memories in person:

- Burning pumpkin game against the Bills on Halloween in 91? 92?

- 2002 vs GB & INDY back to back games.

- 2009 Home Opener vs Pats

- Monday Night Miracle

- Fake Spike

- 98 Jets beating Jags in the playoffs

- The Testeverde achilles snap

- Browning Nagle going from god to goof in a nanosecond.

Through it all wet ate drank and were f*cking merry.

I've always been positive about the Jets and the players. I've always, other than a select few, have been negative about the coaching, which I feel is most of the battle in the NFL. Sad fact is I love this team (to a fault) and always have some optimism about them but the last 5 years have been very difficult for me to say that in any way. The one positive I can say moving forward is I like Joe Douglas and I do think he will take us where we need to go if the Johnsons are smart enough to let him drive, pick a coach and get this this back to a real football operation that Parcells built but was slowly dismantled then put semi back in place by Mangini and Tanny before Rex turned it into a clown show yet again.

I think some good will come out of this once the year is over and we have a nice draft to look forward too and hopefully a real franchise QB

Yup.  Every year is essentially the identical trip in a different city.  Friday night go to a local top restaurant.  Saturday walk around town, tourist stuff - usually local BBQ for lunch, steakhouse dinner.  Sunday the Jets lose the game (3-7 lifetime) and home.  Every year we take the exact same photo in front of the stadium.  They're all printed, framed, and on his bedroom wall.

We'll be back at it.  Hopefully next year, but who knows at this point.  Honestly, I think schedule release day is the only thing I look forward to as a fan at this point.  It comes out, and we start comparing calendars, talking weekends.

With this team though, we have floated the idea of changing to the Rangers.

I remember looking for a place to watch the Jets in the early 2000 with my sons and ran across the @Warfish and Nick Mangolds grandmother at the Chicken Wing factory in Fairfax. LOL

And how did you feel when all that was left were empty trays at the buffet?

I mean it’s been terrible football the majority of years. But there are always great memories. It is about family and friends.

Think about all the times you see a guy with a Jets hat on and you give him the “look” and he knows exactly what you mean.

I have been doing the same with my son for the last ten years.  We live in Chicago -- started in 2009, with the 3 hour drive down to Indy for the regular season game when the Colts pulled Peyton and we handed them their first loss in Week 16.  Went back again a couple of weeks later for the AFCCG.

Since then, we have done a weekend trip each year for the Jets.  We have even done a Super Bowl together (no Jets for that one) and the Rose Bowl (Dawgs - OU).  We usually try to combine Jets with another sporting event.  Last year it was Georgia-Florida in Jax on Saturday and then Jets-Phins in Miami on Sunday.  In 2015, we went to NLCS game on Sat night then Jets v Skins Sunday afternoon.  But those father-son weekends are special.

We were going to have to skip the trip this year anyway, as my son became a father last week.  Travelling for sporting events was not in the cards for him this year.  I am really looking forward to my first Grandpa, Father, Son trip in a few years.

Outside of just enjoying the grid-iron game, the only positive thing that the Jets have ever done for me is be a conversation starter with strangers. That being said, I’ll always love them for some reason. It’s so interesting to hear you guys talk about good relations with your fathers surrounding the Jets. Not me. **** that dude.

The best sundays in my life have been in that parking lot at 10am eating like a pig and drinking like crazy with friends and family. Good laughs and great times even tho the Jets lost a majority of those games lol

Not gonna pry, because I hate hearing about family discord. But, if your Dad was a Fins or Pats fans, PM me. I might be interested in buying the film rights.

Going to games with friends and family. My family is all Colt fans (from Baltimore) so could have gone that route but didn’t. My childhood friend made me a Jet fan. To this day I still text him mad about it and he apologizes sincerely.  I’m in CT so wish I just became a Patriot fan like most of the kids my age around that time in the early 00s

My dad is the Dolphin fan.  Kind of.

The man who introduced me to the Jets, took me to my first game in October of 68.  We beat the Chargers 23-20 at Shea.  3 months later the Jets were Champs and I was hooked for life.  As a 7-year old, I always thought it would be that way.  But for my dad, he was never a die hard fan.  We watched games together when I was growing up, went to a game here or there.  But he never got emotionally invested in the team.  So much so that when he retired to Florida 25 years ago, he started rooting for the Dolphins.  He supports the local team.  He is still surprised that I still love the Jets after moving to the Chicago area 20 years ago.

@SouthernJet

My dad was an abusive alcoholic. All I inherited from him was the Jets and his membership card points for Empire City Casino in Yonkers when he died. I could have taken it for a free buffet, but the food would have tasted like Jets.

sh*t, sorry. I've got a very dark sense of humor. The statement was true but I was saying it more as a joke about the Jets. I wasn't trying to derail your thread.

Spending time at games with my kids.

There was a moment in the late 80’s where I lost my girlfriend and I would go to Jets games alone and wonder if I would ever meet the right woman and ever have a family.  Walking down the steps to my seats, seeing my wife and kids there, it reminds me of those tough times and how grateful I am for what I have now.  The team may lose, but I win every time.

SAR I

Wow, good things happen to those who wait brother.

Growing up in Jersey in the 80’s was tough to be a Jets fan when all my family and friends were Giants fans. Scott Bruner and Ali Ha JI Sheik or what ever the kickers name was.

Getting tickets to Jets games was easy, cheap as a tank of gas.

Best memory of going to a game was seeing Tom Laundry in person, it was like a mirage......

To me it's not about being a fake fan. I actually spend a lot of time in the offseason gearing up with high hopes. I actually really root for this team.

I finally gave up on our head coach last week. Damn man I tried so hard to believe we were going to get something going and the rookies were going to make a difference and holy s*** what a let-down!

Every time I think we're going to come out with a big hard one and bang the hell out of everybody we get erectile dysfunction!?

Like I said in the other thread, I'm going to continue to watch out of loyalty until we actually win and then I'm shutting it off for good.

sorry that wasn't much of a positive post LOL!

I'll try to redeem myself.
