4HCrew
With the Jets financial constraints is it too risky to take Cutler or any qb at #4? For some reason the logical move to me is to trade down try to rebuild the foundation of the team (O Line), get a band aid veteran qb and then next year when the systems are firmly in place and personnel somewhat upgraded then go for the qb. This year is a wash and to put alot of money into a young qb and watch him get pounded on does not make sense.

NIGHT STALKER
The bottom line is no matter who we pick at #4 (providing we stay there), it better be someone who will be with us for a decade...a lot of loot to invest no matter who it is. One thing though...I feel a lot more comfortable with Tannebaum and Magnini banging heads over this than Bradway and Hermy.
Sperm Edwards
Well if there's no CBA done, drafting at #4 won't have any cap implications past 2006.
PhinHater
Do you think Vince Young will be available at #4?
madmike1
The flip side is that if Cutler is the real deal then you are well along on your way to rebuilding the team for 07 instead of drafting a QB next year and having him sit in 08 and not be able to start till 09. Sort of like Dewayne Robertson.... The draft is definitely a crap shoot....
bman
if the jets brass are abolutely in Love with Cutler it's a no branier.. Franchise qb's dont grow on trees.. jets need a qb desperately.
Barton
if the jets brass are abolutely in Love with Cutler it's a no branier.. Franchise qb's dont grow on trees.. jets need a qb desperately. That is true. And while it might make sense to say "Oh lets take Brick or Mario at 4 and get Brady Quinn next year", chances are against us that we will have a top 5 pick next year, imo. Maybe we could get the next best QB, but you cant be so sure. If the Jets love Cutler, they gotta take him.

This is the best reason of all. If we have it in mind to draft a franchise QB, then draft him now. I'm in favor of trading down for more picks, but if they think Cutler is their guy, then don't get too cute & try to pick him up at #9 or #10. Take him at #4. Putting off your rookie QB's developement by a year (by drafting one next year instead) puts the whole team on hold for an extra year.
bman
also, right now, the jets have ZERO qb's... It is the most important position on the team... EVERY player is a risky pick...you have NO idea how they will perform in the nfl...brick included! remember tony mandarich???? If the jets feel that Cutler can be their franchise QB then they need to draft him... remember, Herm is gone...Mangini will make the right call.
