vanDoug
Predicted by many to win the gold. No denying the talent on the team. What happened? Two big reasons come to mind. 1) They did not play like a team. I saw many instances of 2 and 3 guys right around the puck. That a group as talented as this did not score a goal in 11 of their last 12 periods of play is incredible. 2) Stupid penalties. With a capital S. And you can start with Bertuzzi. Way too many times Canada would get a man advantage and then get their own penalty within 10 seconds to neutralize it. I'm not blaming the refs. Also, Canada often took penalties in their Offensive side of the ice while trying to score. Stupid. The talk up here is that you'll see NHL players in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, but after that it's doubtful. That talk had already started before this dismal showing by team Canada
JetsMan57
Canada 2006=TEAM USA 1998 without the off ice embarrassment. After winning in 2002 Canada just expected to show up and pick up their gold medal, which is what TEAM USA expected in 98 after winning the world cup of hockey 2 years prior. And If i hear again why sidney crosboy was not on the team ill flip. Canada is so talented they didnt need to add a 21 year old in this kind of tournament. Not saying Crosby wouldnt have helped, just that the current crop should have won a medal. Crosby's time will come.
faba
Canada was thrown together with NHL players - the other countries like Finland and Sweden did not have as many guys thrown together as a team at the last minute- something to be said for that

They're a mish mash of NHL players too. Same with Russia. The US and Canadian teams just weren't that good.
Fred Jetstone
Bottom line is Gretzky picked the wrong cats. He had a Coyote-bias that ultimately backfired. Shane Doan, please! ALso, Theodore should have been the golaie. Live & learn. I hope his wife didn't lose any $ gambling on it.
