With Perriman out and Crowder likely out - our WRs vs Chiefs

Recommended Posts

We will have 4 healthy receivers available vs the Chiefs:

  • 11 - Denzel Mims 6'3" 207 Baylor (WR)
  • 17 - Vyncint Smith 6'3" 202 Limestone (WR)
  • 10 - Braxton Berrios  5'9" 190  Miami (FL) (WR/KR)
  • 16 - Jeff Smith 6'0" 195  Boston College   (WR)

Not an ideal situation, but we will look for Mims to take on more of the workload with the speedy Smiths rotating at the other spot and Berrios - who is inconsistent but can make the occasional play - in the slot

We also have 4 WRs on the Practice Squad  - one of them will likely be activated.

  1. 81  - DJ Montgomery 6'1" 201 Austin Peay (WR)
  2.  1 - Jaleel Scott 6'5" 210 New Mexico State (WR)
  3. 83 - Josh Malone 6'3" 208 Tennessee (WR)
  4. 86 - Lawrence Cager 6'5" 215 UGA (WR)    (Activated 2X)  **

** Once again, we are in the position of having to learn if the Practice Squad call ups reset after a player is put on the active roster.

If not, we might not see the promising Cager activated again this year, and might get our 1st look at Montgomery or Scott.

  • Montgomery was a small-school UDFA who gained some attention for playing well in the 2019 preseason for Cleveland before being injured
  • Scott was a Ravens 4th rounder in 2018 who has also battled injuries -  he's big and caught a lot of balls in college, but only had 1 NFL reception before being released by Baltimore

Perriman seemed capable of making some good catches.

Just FYI, we don't know if Cager has any more "free" call ups from the practice squad - we might have to expose him to waivers if we call him up again.

Now, would anyone actually claim him if he was waived? Unlikely, but possible

Is Malone in the same boat or did we waive him and bring him back?

To be honest it is significantly better than some of the WR groupings we have had this year.

A very active poster on this Board says this WR group (if Crowder) was active is as good as Bengals crew. Baaaaaaahhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
There are probably 10 college teams with a better crew than this. But there are NFL WRers so they must be good. Interesting argument. Classic straw man no??

See he (?) has to back up the WRers and the OL and the RB or else he can’t say it’s all Sams fault.
