Also depends on who you would be sitting for. Rodgers and Mahomes sat for Farve and Alex Smith. Sanchez and Sam played instead of Kellen Clemmons and McCown. Just a slight difference.?

Sure.  But the idea for any young QB is that any bridge QB will do.  Somehow, insulating a rookie QB from the field for as long as possible will protect his delicate psyche and allow him to blossom properly.  That's the idea, anyways.

Agree with you...that's nonsense. Rodgers, Mahomes and Eli could/did learn from Farve, Smith and Warner. That's an exception these days. Most kids drafted very high are going to teams that suck, and that usually means that's because their QB's suck. College coaches don't have a problem playing big recruits right away. Just use the old eye test.

Yeah and teams almost always get #1 pick because their QB stinks. Rodgers and Mahomes were of course drafted much later. 1st overalls almost always start game 1, even in the "olden days."

Hey... Anyway... I've been posting on these boards for a while... Years, frankly.

Over that time, we've consistently heard arguments about how we give up on a player too soon.  And, that Jets fans, "run players out of town."

However...

Here's something that's never happened:

Jets release an underperforming Quarterback (or frankly, other position players) who then goes on to have a very strong career elsewhere.

Here's something that has happened:

Jets pass on drafting a QB prospect because we need to "SEE WHAT WE HAVE" in Geno Hackenchezold.

To review:

QBs Jets have had that have gone on to success elsewhere:

...

QBs Jets didn't draft because of stupidity/faith in the guy we had:

Patrick Mahommes, Deshaun Watson, Teddy Bridgewater, Derrick Carr, Russell Wilson

Yet, Jets fans consistently fear the former, and not the latter.

Oh, and for position players, the entire list is probably Demario Davis, a guy that no one ran out of town, but the Jets made a financial decision on.

In conclusion, stop worrying about getting rid of sh*tty players to the detriment of actually adding non-sh*tty ones.  Because, only one of these things has happened, and it's not the one you're terrified of.

Add Russell Wilson to that list too, because of Sanchez.

so lets assume we get the number one and draft trevor our next new "franchise qb"

what is a reasonable amount of time to wait until he shows he is a legit number one franchise qb?

now clearly we dont know who his coach will be or what the roster will look like so lots of this is pure speculation

Folks say Joe has a 6  year plan and we need to be patient for a full rebuild.

People wrote off sam by year 3 with garbage as a coach and garbage as a roster in a tank year.

Are  you willing to  give Trevor a 4-6 year window(that is what  it will take)  or are you going to bail after 2-3 years like folks are doing with sam?

My fear is we will ruin another qb or put him in a position to fail

8 games. If he's not the best Qb in the league by that point he never will be. We will know if we need to move on by game 9 of his rookie season.

GO JETS!!!

Dan Marino. Brett Favre

Marino doesn't qualify for this particular discussion, because we didn't have a QB on the roster that caused us to pass on Marino.  We passed on Marino for O'Brien from the same draft.  That would be more akin to what the Bears did in passing on Mahomes to take Mitchell Trubisky.

Same deal with Favre.  We took Browning Nagle in the same draft.

Both terrible decisions, of course, but they weren't guys we passed on because we decided to roll with the QB(s) on the roster instead, like we did with Russell Wilson (Sanchez) and Mahomes/Watson (Hackenberg).
