KHBirdman Posted February 24, 2006 Share Posted February 24, 2006 I've been reading from this site for a while (also members of other Jets Message boards...I guess, the competition), and I continue to see posts from AJ Vaynerchuck aka The Sowell Train and his Jets TV site where you don't have to read the post, you can see video. Lovely. The problem is this. AJ claims he is always "Breaking the news" of Jet happenings. However, everything this guy claims he is breaking the news of is either said from a beat writer, a reports, on TV, or is totally obvious. Example: We've been hearing for weeks and weeks that the Jets are going to make some cuts. AJ claims he is the one to break the news that the Jets are going to cut Sowell. This was obvious that this was going to happen to save money. He didn't break any story. He just stated the the obvious and pretty must told us exactly what every newspaper was telling us for a while. I think this kid is putting in a great effort to have video with his blog but he's also a kid probably in the early years of highschool who doesn't have any media connections or Jet connections with the front office to claim that his is the one breaking the news. I think it is great what he is doing and love his passion for this team that has frustrated me for 35 years (season ticket holder since before birth). And, I hope what he is doing actually propells his to one day be a Jets beat writer, work for a Jets publication, or even be on a Jets TV show when they get their own network (only if he brings me in as a guest for the guy that pubilically bashed him). We enjoy watching it. 3) Beat writers can't get any advance notice on things anymore. An hour before the press conference announcing that Bradway had been demoted, Zero didn't even know about it & he works for the friggin' NY Post. So if he's coming out with "breaking news" that IS relatively new (or may be news to those who don't live every minute on the internet searching for "whispers") what's your beef? Why does this anger you & in what way does it affect your life? 4) If you think you can do a better job of it, go ahead & post the link here. My brother yells at me every day for being RIDICULOUSLY lucky for starting to be come a Jets fan in 1996. He says I have only gone through 2 bad years (1996 and this past one). And not only did you claim that you broke the story, you said the Jets called you for permission to cut Sowell. Did this move have your blessing or not? I'm am a member of Gang Green and Jets Insider under the KHBirdman name as well. Not sure why I never signed up for this site but I am me. I am not bashing AJ "The Sowell Train" at all. I think he does a good job what he is doing and his video blogs are definitely unique. My point was that he was claiming he broke the store. His reply was that he did break the Sowell story but it was an assumption. What is we retained Sowell? Then the assumption was wrong. Breaking the story means there are facts that support the story being broken. Breaking a Story and an Assumption are completely different. However, it was a good assumption. AJ...take no offense to my comments. I'm a frustrated Jets fan for many years as we all are and use these boards to gain knowledge on the team we root for as well as vent frustrations and ask questions. For me, someone who "breaks a story" is someone like John Clayton out in Hofstra or a reporter getting inside buzz talking to people inside. Being the first to get facts out in the open is the breaking of the story. A story can't be broken based on an assumption. Let's get past this. Keep up the good work at your blog and keep at it. The second I put up my story, I knew for a FACT that he was being cut Tuesday ( He was originally going to be cut Tuesday, but there was a hold up in some of the decisions on the other players they announced Wednesday so they held all the cuts for one day ). My family has some involvment with the Jets and I was fortunate enough to be a member of my family. well after all the leaks in the Herm/Bradway era, you might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer to be crowing about being 'my family has some involvment with the Jets'. You might find out that being the NEW leak in a organization that is now anti-leak may be dangerous to your health and may put you at the kids table (see Elaine) at Thanksgiving. He said what he felt like saying. That is what we do on message boards. And I wouldn't let anyone take a shot at someone else under an assumed name.
